Feb. 27, 2007, 9:29 a.m.It is imperative that those of us in the christian left do not fall prey to the same temptations for lust of power in the halls of Capitol Hill inorder to achieve goals. This corruption of faith that has molten these two, the religious right and right wing politics has produced the most poisonous amalgam.

Feb. 27, 2007, 3:44 p.m.I think part of the problem might be that Christians are often looking for the theocracy that comes with Jesus' final return and think they can "help" it along, which is the mistake Abraham and so many others make it scriture. When God says something is goingto happen and the believer wants to "help" God along.
Another desire for Christians is to have political leaders that are also Christians, in order to have those of like mind and values. This, I think, is a good thing because the idea is to bring people of principle to leadership. The danger is, however, to become a "police state", don't you think?

If we tear down the wall of separation between church and state we do so at the peril of this grand experiment in a democratic republic.
And for what point? Forcing someone to pray a certain way at a certain time is going to be of no more effect today than it was when King Nebuchadnezzar tried to enforce how Daniel prayed.
