Scientists: "Tens of billions" needed to combat global warming »

Posted by: Aidenag 2 years, 8 months ago

To head off the worst of climate change, governments must pour tens of billions of dollars more than they are into clean-energy research and enforce sharp rollbacks in fossil-fuel emissions, an expert scientific panel reported to the United Nations on Tuesday.

Oh, come now. Tens of billions sounds like such an overwhelming amount of money - enough for people to think it can't or shouldn't be done. Just ask how much money the U.S. is spending PER WEEK in Iraq, and you'll realize that the money for construction is there - once we stop spending it on destruction. The U.S. is the major polluter per capita, and we have the resources to make the major difference in global warming. Just shift the money from Iraq.

Now just give that tens of billions to Al Gore, and he will save the world,. NOT.

It is giong to take more than 10 plus billion to cut down CO2 emissions around the world sence China alone plans to build MANY coal fired plants to power their new industries.

Just handing over money to the UN is not going to work. Our only hope is that other countries can be convinced to follow our example.

            TENS OF BILLIONS???

That's chump change in comparison to DICK AND GEORGE'S SUICIDE ROMP IN IRAQ.

Imagine a TRILLION or so being pumped into research instead of funding a military to secure all that oil for the pricks!

aren't they a little early to be passing the plate???

or is this going to make it to the evening news?

KYOTO, is ALL about the money,

global warming is just the mantra.

if you are worried about greenhouse gasses,

cut back or eliminate your use of fossil fuel,

and hey, you'll save money, and feel better.

then send your savings to Al Gore and crew,

but please... leave the taxpayer out of it.

                clean air

                clean water

                non-toxic food

whether or not you believe in human enhanced global warming, these are good things you must agree. developing an ecologically sound energy source, and attempting to clean up after ourselves will preserve those essential resources for us and the future of our species.

I hope its not asking too much for people to consider that far ahead

The only way to stop Global Warming is to stop and reduce the human growth rate and world population. So, what are the best things we have now that can do this? Diseases, aren't slowing us down enough, AIDS takes too long and will be cured soon. Bird Flu could potentially take out a 1/4 of the world population, that would be a good start. When that epidemic begins, WWIII can start, and that can further reduce our population and our impacts on the planet. When there is less than 2 billion people on this planet Global Warming will no longer be a threat.

The scientific community in the 70's agreed that there was global cooling, that was a prelude to increasing global temperatures. The majority of the scientific community agreed with this. Why do you conservatives INSIST upon following the fringe of scientific consensus?

Nothing more pathetic than functionally retarded right wingers becomming science experts in seconds. Let us come to grips with right wingers, they are morons. Just look at one of their idols, Ronald Reagan, a man who destroyed American industry, sold America to cheasp Chinese goods and wrecked unions, yet the right wing calls him a hero.

They are functionally retarded, their whole purpose in life is to shriek "lib lib lib " blame others for the things they have destroyed in this country.

                              Who do you trust?

                              Science or shrieking right wingers?

FOLLOW THE MONEY !!!!! Tens of billions of dollars. The easiest way for people with influence (access to the media) is to create a public scare and cah in. Remember the Y2K crisis? The world has not kept enough accurate records to determine weather patterns over the last - what - billion years. These scientists are under the new world order of PUBLISH OR PARISH.

If they do not publish, they are fired from their positions. Medical field also. The easiest way to to publish is to contradict what is commonly accepted. Vitamins are good for you. Vitamins are bad for you. Christ is God. Christ was a literary tool. Coffee is bad for you. Coffee is good for you. In the meantime, people made fortunes manipulating the facts and us. FOLLOW THE MONEY. Watch the new green hollywood and see who still flies in private planes, have private limos, multiple homes. etc. FOLLOW THE MONEY. It is all just a trade show.

Then we're all doomed because there's so many ignorant people out their that don't even think humans are to be blamed for Global Warming. I post fightglobalwarming.com at sites telling people just to take the simple steps on the page if they want to save the world they live in. All I get is an immature and ignorant response.

If you go to the site, the steps in fighting global warming aren't that hard but people are too self-centered to even give back to the world. So yes we are all doomed. There's simply not enough people that believe in it. If they do most of them just think "oh well I don't be around when it happens". If not you your kids might be so just stop arguing and go to the site and see what you can do. It's not that hard.
