Bush "hasn't to date done anything we've asked him to do, so why we would think he would do anything in the future is beyond me," said Rep. Lynn Woolsey, D-Calif., one of a group of liberal Democrats pushing for an immediate end to the war.

The tactic is more likely to embarrass Bush politically than force his hand on the war. He would have to sign repeated waivers for units and report to Congress those units with equipment shortfalls and other problems.

In the Senate , a group of senior Democrats wants to repeal the 2002 measure authorizing the war and write a new resolution restricting the mission and ordering troop withdrawals to begin by this summer. But Majority Leader Harry Reid , D-Nev., said Iraq would have to wait until the Senate finishes work to improve homeland security.

"Slowly bleeding our forces by defunding what our commanders think they need to win (the House approach) or rewording the authorization of the use of force so that lawyers decide what operations are to be launched (the Senate approach) is no way to fight a war. It is no way to end a war. It is a way to complicate the war and make it inherently unwinnable-and to shirk the political responsibility for doing so."

It's not too much to ask that The Decider not send untrained and ill equipped teenagers to their deaths. I see a lot of conservative support for this war, but an overwhelming lack of criticism of their sparce training and inadequate equipment. If you support the troops, keep away from the partisan politics that put them in danger, demand that they are fully prepared and protected before they get shipped off.

Both democrats and the Republicans are two sides of the same coin, the Democrat are not going to bring any changes to the world or to America they too dependent on the highly pro-Israeli lobby.

The democrats owe their constituents an explanation for what they're doing. The who, what, when, where and why of it. No more leaving it up to speculations of the media, the blogs, or the second guessers. They need to call a press conference for prime time, and explain themselves, in detail. No posturing, no empty rhetoric. Just lay it on the table, and give support for their reasons.

f-ing cowards in congress. Useless f-ing cowards. The dems voted for the war to demonstrate they were "tough" and patriotic. They would never have dared not to back the war in the wake of the stinking islamists bombing the WTC. Now the wind blows in a different direction, and they twist that way. Yet they're trying to appease the anti-war types by straddling the fence.

Let's face it. Our useless senators and congressmen are interested in only one thing - keeping power. If they had guts or conviction or a shred of humanity, they'd vote to cut funding. End of war.

why would Bush listen to them, they have the power to defund the war. Ok guys and gals put up or shut up, put an amendment brfore congress to pull the funding. Have an up or down vote and let the chips fall where they may. The Dems don not have the balls to put there name on anything, what a wasted election.

kinda like bush and the "were not gonna talk to iran" stance, which they just changed!!!

why is it that when a democrat changes their mind its flip-flop, or "whichever way the wind blows" or all that other Bullsh*t..... but when a rep changes their mind its somehow alright???

I do not understand why any party would be so willing to base there political futures on failure in Iraq. The dems are so caught up in this "lose at all cost" crap that anything less then total failure would be disastrous for there party. What ever happened to politics stopping at the waters edge? I don't mind partisan politics at home, but when we are fighting over seas Americans should stand as one. Everyone yells 'bring the troops home" but have you ever wondered how soon our troops would get home if the politicians and the American people would get behind them and in one voice say "go kick some a$$".

I am looking forward to seeing the Democrats' plan for Iraq. I hope it is THEIR plan and not just a list of criticisms of the things that have already been done.

I already know what happened yesterday. Let's hear some creative, original ideas that someone is willing to bet their lives on.

I want someone to say: "This is my idea, this is my plan, and I am willing to stake my job and my reputation on it"
