March 1, 2007, 1:10 p.m.This is an outrage! This man should be put away for life. He had feelings for the child is not quiet good enough for me. For the rest of her life this girl will carry a scar that will take her down a road no child should have to travel. One that could lead to a number of emotional issues that range from insecurity to the possibility of ending up in prison over the emotional damage this jerk has done! What in the HECK is that judge thinking??????? Not much I'd say.

March 1, 2007, 1:17 p.m.She's only TWELVE! He's 21. At that age, the difference is enormous. He had to realize that there was a huge disparity in their maturity levels. And this judge? What if it was his twelve year old girl, or worse, his boy. The girl is just plain too young. And this illegal alien gets 18 months? And after that, what? Do we get to deport him then?

March 1, 2007, 2:10 p.m.The parents of the girl knowingly broke the law by harboring this cretin. Their daughter shouldn't have had to pay the price for their actions, but she did. They are every bit as responsible for what happened as the miscreant himself.
Hopefully, the story will get out to other families who might be contemplating opening their homes to potentially dangerous "immigrants."

March 1, 2007, 11:25 p.m.He should have been deported immediately, and brought to his hometown with a sign on him explaining what he had done. I bet the town folk would have seen to justice.

March 2, 2007, 3:59 a.m.he will not survive in prison. he should be given life. we should not deport him we need to keep him in prison and demand an apology from his gov. the gov needs to be held accountable. maybe we should suspend any border crossing coming out of mexico for a week every time this type of tragedy occurs.....oh and the judge that let him off should be made to present a full case to the people for his decision and then based on popular vote he should also serve half the sentence

March 2, 2007, 1:51 p.m.This story is sad regardless of his legal status. I pray for that girl. I will say that some responsiblity lies with the parents as well. I know you can't protect your kids all of the time, but I think they put her in harms way.
I just think that it's sadder still to use a sad story for political gain by mentioning his illegal status.
