OpEd: Leaders Don't Kill People... »

Posted by: populist 2 years, 8 months ago

The sad truth is no one will be held accountable, and there will be no trials or prosecutions for the countless innocents that have been killed in America's foreign wars. The result is that the politicians are further emboldened to wage even more wars in the future.

I am so sick of the warmongers, especially the white house and the Republicans.

They all make such a big show of how "pro-life" they are by opposing stem cell research and pro-choice.

But, killing TENS OF THOUSANDS of innocent Women, Children, and BABIES in the 'name' of "war" is manslaughter on a mass scale.

I actually heard a 'conservative' state on the radio that it was JUST FINE to kill children in the "war", because he would rather see them killed than his own children.

Ah, but that is a-ok because it is 'war'. BullS**t!!

Lots of food for thought, with accountability being the major obstacle to any solution. Why don't we have accountability? We demand it when someone robs a bank, kills their neighbor, harms a child. Yet all normal emotion appears to dissolve when actions involve areas outside of the 'world' we live in. But we'll wonder why we're hated by people from other countries. How very odd we are.

We were talking politics in the salon one day. The subject was the killing of all the innocents in Iraq. A client that I had always found amusing made the comment "We need to just nuke 'em all and let the whole middle east start from scratch." We all said "What about all the innocent women and children that would be killed"? He said "They are all just baby terrorists and mothers of baby terrorists." This has to do with being here and not in the middle of what's going on, seeing the bombs explode, hearing the screams and explosions and feeling horror of it all. Spend a day in a war zone and see how much different the point of view could be.

I recently read on another site where a republican said that there would never be a change in the way things were unless a republican was elected president in 2008.

Can you believe that? I thought it was amazing!

Repubs have been in the White House 20 of the last 28 years, and the majority of that time we have also had a rep Congress, and look at the mess our country is in!! Yet they can't see it, want more of the same in 2008!

What will it take to make people wake up and realize that republicans have just about destroyed this country?

This war was nothing more than a money making machine for Bush/Cheney. They have probably made a billion dollars off it, and never cared who died for them to make their deposits. They have probably laughed all the way to the bank, while parents lay awake at night worrying about their children and crying themselves to sleep!

May be the next republican will give everybody a two thousand dollar rebate, kill 6,000 more Americans, up the gas prices to around four dollars a gallon, and increase the national debt so American can continue working to pay taxes.

It's amazing how a few dollars can make one look in one direction and not see the whole picture. Trouble is not reveal until it knocks on one's door.

Some are still thinking republicans are the best thing since slice bread.

How totally true. I only hope and pray that Bush and his cronies can be brought to justice for the Iraq misadventure, because it not only put the United States at FAR greater risk of terrorist attack, but it was an illegal war per the laws of this land.

Its not just republicans but also democrats ruining the country. Untill we get political parties that do not get paid by lobbiest, feel above the law and advertise on tv and actually get out and travel meet people (and not by holding $100 dinners) and get back to real debate, we will continue to have puppet government.

Gas should be $6 a gallon, then we would start using alternative fuels. There is no reason this country shouldnt be already except the lobbying garbage that goes on. We all complain about health care costs. Well why are people allowed to smoke cigaretts then? Because of big money.

Both parties are just puppet jokes and there are very few that actually give a crap once they start playing the game of politics.

As far as who is at fault for deaths in Iraq. No on really. Its nature taking its course. Just as 911 was an attack on us. Human nature has a funny way of helping the planet from being over populated.

I think everyone acknowledges that war is sometimes necessary. Never saw anyone ever say WW2 wasn't do or die necessary.

I have a lot of vets in the family, mostly because I have a huge family.I had an Uncle that lived thru WW2 but had 'battle fatigue' now called PTSS. He used to flip over the big dinner table[he was a large powerful man] and hide behind it screaming about the japs on occassion. Made for intersting meal times, I'm sure.

Thing about war is there are no real flat out winners, everyone loses, just some lose more, and some lose less. My Uncle Ray was a 'winner', a good man who did what he had to do in the war and kept america sovereign and free.

he died young, before I was old enough to talk to him about it,but I think he'd agree with me.Everyone pays a price in war,a heavy price, so why are governments so quick to engage in them, and why are people so quick to support them?

My Uncle Joe on my mom's side is still with us. He's 87. He also fought in the Pacific Theatre.

AS Eisenhower described in his farewell address, the world had changed after WWII.

The armament industry became dangerously powerful as the oil industry, as well.

As one journalist said, Eisenhower's warning in his farewell address were "THE MOST POIGNANT WORDS EVER SPOKEN."

They have everything to do with our soldiers losing thier lives in Iraq.

Our government has been taken over by the Military Industrial Complex as Eisenhower warned could happen.

Those capable of discussing the subject with sober minds and without condemnation of either polical party, can help this country immensely.

We must meet and expose the real enemy, if we ever want to expect true progress in ending the perverse need for war.

Gearge said it all, the truth as to why he went into Iraq. Not with his own family, but everyone elses. I will never forget the image of George walking into the White House, a reporter asked if he was going into Iraq. George replied,"Yes, he tried to kill my daddy." To think, Congress, the cabinet, the supreme court, and all Americans whether they voted him in or not, are all responsible for the deaths, destruction and soldiers returning home injured. We are no less than those who wathced Hitler kill and stand aside, doing nothing. I'm further aghast that there are still Americans who lack the comprehension and cognitive skills to comprehend what is taking place. Yes, this will go down in history as one of the worst killings by America, for revenge of his father.

I think we all would rather be at peace than at war. I do not know what the solution is. I hope in my lifetime, or at least in my childrens, that the world as a whole will have some breakthrough that makes us better able to prevent the causes of war to begin with. I know it is unlikely, but we can dream.

They will be held accountable by a higher power. The same one they believe in. What they don't realize is that their wars are not for the glory of God, but despite of him. They will learn that on their day of Judgment. This is a very well-thought-out and articulate expression of one point of view, so I would like to take it seriously. The main problem I see with it is it seems to try to isolate the situation apart from its historical context. There is a lot of history in the ME. Just going back to the shah of Iran, one point of view is that he was an oppressor of human rights, but to many others he was trying to bring his backward nation into the 20th century. In either case, now that he's gone there's no confusion whatsoever about his successor, the Ayatolleh Khomeni, who executed more people his first year in power than the shah had in his previous 25 years. Real life situations get messy and sometimes we have to choose the lesser evil, knowing that making this choice doesn't make it good.

I think a lot of you have a few screws loose.....How can you put a blanket over everything and whine and cry about the evils of war?

Maybe a lot of you forgot that it was war that got us this country called America from the Brits, French, and Spanish? Sure, there are evils in war, but there are evils in the lack of it too. I don't recall reading in the history books any sympathy for the Native Americans when our Calvary slaughtered thousands and thousands of Indians, or the slaughter of thousands and thousands in the Civil War, or just the slaughter of thousands and thousands of African Slaves!

Perhaps we'd all be drinking English Tea, or Speaking German in concentration camps, or perhaps Japanese, or being forced to worship as Muslems. Of course, we could all be Russians by now, or living under Castro.

A man is found by the police waving a handgun in there air near a school that is being let out, claiming that he has bombs strapped to his body. The man claims his unseen hand in his coat pocket is on an unseen trigger. After calling their superiors with the information they have, the commanding officer fearing the bomb going off near a school and the suspect repeated refusal to disarm and show evidence of said bomb, he gave the kill order just as school children were getting close to the area. A stray bullet that didn't meet it's mark killed a nearby jogger, as well as one office in the exchange of fire.

As the old song said "it's too late to turn back now". The very threat Eisenhower warned against has come to full fruition with this administration. The pall of fear that Cheney has attempted to cast over the American people fits this story like a glove. But of course he learned this all from Hermann Goering, that's the really frightening part. He never breaks the cadence, we are always under attack, this shadowy unseen enemy lurks around every corner and if we don't destroy them now they will be marching down MainStreet USA tomorrow. And at least 30% of Americans share this view and advocate unending war as the solution.

There is no government on Earth with an army capable of taking us on. It would be a suicide mission. Saddam certainly never had such an intention. He had been pummeled badly enough before to think differently. Yet we felt the need to pre-empt an intention that was never really there. This was an offensive act, not an act in defense of this nation.

This Op-Ed is just another bunch of crap aimed at Bush. The cold hard real truth is that LEADERS DO KILL PEOPLE! Leaders, elected and otherwise, do kill people! It happens every day all over the world. It's happened throughout the centuries. A crime Saddam Hussein is guilty of several thousand times over. The piece doesn't mention anything about Hussein or Hitler or Stalin or even Clinton's involvement in Bosnia. Nor does it mention the witnesses that mysteriously died or disappeared whenever another Clinton scandal emerged. U morons at populist.com should consider all the facts before U write more crap. Hopefully the same thing that happened to Air America will happen to U! STUPIDS!
