    Interesting. What does it mean? Just another natural thing occuring that we have just discovered.

        good one hmac!

        i'm confused. if the mantle isn't there, what's holding in the guts?

          Cleare, gravity is "holding in the guts" but I would think that something has replaced the "crust" or all that water would be pouring in, powered by that same gravity, to the Earth's insides, and we would notice it. (Maybe that is where all those ships, planes etc. have disappeared to in the "Bermuda Triangle" disasters - lol}

              Close, but no cigar. There is a section of the mid-Atlantic ridge, just to the east (and probably north (since they gave no graphics about this, its hard to be certain, where a massive flood buried a great civilization about 10 to 12K BCE, when the ocean level rose about 600 feet.

              The absence of the mantle at this place could explain what started the chain reaction of earthquakes that broke down the land bridges that had been holding back the Great Arctic Ocean that had risen from the melting of the ice.

              A major strike by a very large comet at that place that destroyed the mantle could explain the total devastation of what we call Atlantis.

                Oh, and while the substance below the crust, the mantle is exposed and held down by gravity, water is in no danger of flowing down into that giant scar because water has less mass (is less attracted by gravity) than are the substances such as serpentinite and other materials in the mantle.

                        If there is no mantle in this area now and there is now this big hole in the bottom of the ocean then the ocean now holds more water than when the figures were done estimating just what is going to be flooded when all the ice melts due to global warming. Right?

                        I knew it would work out all right.

                            Very interesting. I wonder if it has anything to do with the diminishing magnetic fields? Hopefully, "geographer" will stop in and enlighten all of us.

                                  I think Mr Yesitrue better get himself a book on Mineralogy or Petrology. It is called SERPENTINITE and it is in the Greenschist Facies and is a Metamorphic rock usually formed when oceanic crust which has a lot of water in it is subducted under continental crust and is subjected to high heat and pressure. There is a great formation of it just outside Leavenworth, Washington. A whole cliff where you can see it from the road. I have a fair supply of it in my yard that I got on a U of W field trip. The Olympic mountains have tons of it as they were formed from the subduction of the pacific plate under the North American plate.

                                                  What if like us humans, and George Bush too, this planet, this "Living Earth" as we call our mother, is much like a balloon, and what we refer to as plate techtonics is simply the balloon expanding as the orb grows bigger. For fun look at an Atlas, the puzzle pieces kinda fit, and to boot, as our bodies create oil for our skin to protect it from the sun and other elements, why wouldn't our "Living" mother Earth do the same for herself? HooookerDooooker!
