Once again, the hard-core Religious Right has gone on the attack, orchestrating a new campaign to advance their Far Right political views. And even more bizarre, there was another report this morning that in his sermon last Sunday, Jerry Falwell claimed the debate over global warming is a tool of Satan being used to distract churches from their prim

There is still a schizoid, obstinate brand of so called christians that are so in bed with Republicons that they will stop at nothing to force the church into submission to the Republicon agenda without regard to authentic Bible teaching and ecological ethic. And now the NAE president is being forced to resign in the name of a SECULAR political agenda that is being passed as christian. Such wackos like Jerry Falwell has said that proper ethical stewardship of God's creation is a satanic plan to supposedly distract from salvation issues. Truly they should not be mutually exclusive, but should compliment each other. These actions embarass christianity and the church and enables and empowers those who generalize about religion as mindless and selfishly doing political grandstanding like any godless politician. These charlatans must be identified and exposed as what they are: pseudochristians and opposing God's true kingdom that is not just to come but is also here.

Yep ... anyone who believes in the God of the Bible should AUTOMATICALLY believe what Genesis says about God giving man DOMINION over the earth and RESPONSIBILITY for it.

For anyone who claims to be a Christian to NOT want to do EVERYTHING possible to TAKE CARE OF God's creation - the EARTH - they are defying the very God that they say they worship and obey.

It is NOT any more simple or straighforward than that. GOD created the Earth; Man was given responsibility for the earth by God; when Man does NOT take care of God's creation, he disobeys and defies God.

The hypocrisy of the far right fundamentalists and the environment is ASTOUNDING.

Jerry Falwell has been and is irrelevent other than his congregation which I am amazed, he has one. Irrationality abounds when you deal with the religious zealots that profess to be speaking for a GOD.

I listened attently as they profess to be with the Jewish state and are donating to promote Israel. Now the point I want to make is this same group avows that as the end time is nearing, the Israel's, Jews will not be saved unless they convert to Christianity upon Christs return. Wow thats a paradox if ever I heard of one.

So their views on Climate Change are of no surprise.

Global warming is quite real but man is only partially responsible (deforestation of the rainforests and plain old water pollution are other things altogether) solar cycles and volcanism are much greater contributors and there's nothing we can do about them.

I don't see why climate change has anything to do in a debate with religion. It is what it is. Wrong stewardship of our planet, misuse of our resources, too many peaople taking out and not putting anything back. The well will run dry at some point. What is happening fits with the blessings and curses of Deut. 28. How it is happening isn't as important as the fact that it is happening and what has to be done to reverse the slide to destruction. In this area Religion should be making the reasons and solution clear. Instead they get into a debate as to whether it is happening or not, all the while things continue to get worse.

Does lying about the head of the NAE's vice president for governmental affairs, Rich Cizik fall under the heading of Fundamentalist Christian Values? "Thou shalt not lie" only counts when lying doesn't involve consolidating political power and money.

Seems to me the Jerry Falwell and his sort hold this 1 value sacrosanct. Grab all the money I can and screw whomever comes after me, even if they're my own kids. True new Repuglican values. No wonder the Repuglicans and the religious right get along so well.

Climate change causes have not been proven, just agreed upon by the Left and as many scientists as they can coerce. Religious people have just as much right as anyone to question whether it is natural or not, despite what many here may think. Go to CO2Science.org and look at the temps for the past 9,000 yrs., then tell me what is the normal temperature. Look at all the other causes of warming and cooling, huge forces compared to Man, and then tell me you are convinced that Man alone is responsible. If you still say Man is the cause, you have an inflated sense of your own importance.

So the cancer giving fire retardents found in the Arctic and dwindling fish stocks and Chernobyl are nothing to do with Man. No wonder you don't believe we are the cause of global warming. The key to global warming is the amount of CO2 and we produce a hell of a lot of it not to mention millions of tons of methane from our livestock. There are so many unknowns of course but i find it difficult to dismiss the link. Besides what has this got to do with religion?. Well here is my theory. This bloke falwell has probably got a huge financial interest in something which would be seriously threatened by any remedy to halt global warming. He is using religion as a tool for his own greed.

The truth is that the discussion of global warming is merely a distraction from the mission of the church. We can talk about stewardship of the Earth, but the most important mission is proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. The reason that the religious right is opposed to calling global warming a manmade problem is that all the whacked out solutions proposed by those financially interested advocates are socialist in nature. If you want to convince the right to get on board with the global warming bandwagon, propose some solutions that don't require gathering up our economic power and tossing it to the Chinese. Surely there are free market mechanisms to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

people may disagree about the causes of global warming, but there is no more argument that it is, in fact happening.

so let's quit arguing, get on the ball and find some solutions. we may not be able to stop it, but perhaps we can slow it down and mitigate some of the worse impacts...

while history does show swings in climate; the news for mankind during a warm up like this has been catastophic. not just weather, but vermin & disease; unpredictable crops & famine; and then there is sea rise and the associated flooding.

whatever brings this on, humanity is still going to suffer tremendous devestation if some preparations are not made.

People get real! Are you going to cork up every volcano in the world so that they can't spew their toxic gases into the atmosphere? There are literally thousand of these volcanos spread over the earth. They are part of nature. If you do that, the world would explode from the pressure building up inside the planet and; it's quite impractable. Yes,we are to be wise stewarts of the earth, but only as far as it is humanly possible. Recycling and wise use of natural resources would be the best way, however, there is a thing called 'greed' amongst us and some of us do not know how to control our passions. Progress should always go forward, to do what the'left wing liberals' preach would be to take one giant step back into the past. Oh! and that would only pertain to everyone else; not them. I don't know about y'all but I don't want to live by candlelight or get around atop animals and have to deal with their 'toxic waste'.Let's progress into the 21st century and rid the world of greed.

The fact is that the climate IS changing. If we all agree to turn off the lights when we leave the room, throw away our electric can openers and grow our own tomatoes, we will lower our electric bills, develop some wrist muscle and have some truly delicious tomatoes. AND we will have softened our footprint on the planet.

Now, if I am correct in believing that this is caused in part by humankind, the actions above will help a little. If I'm wrong, you will still benefit.

I will make this simple for these simple folks. Look out over your town, city or berg in the U.S. (if not real windy) and look at the smog and haze enveloping the one isolated habitation. Now multiply this by the amount of cities, town etc. within America. Now have you ever looked at Chinese cities, town, boros or whatever. The Chinese have only within recent years just began expanding at expodential increases.

How ludicrous is this volcano idea. I guess for the illiterate and inane its plausible.

The Religious Right, who for some reason call themselves evangelicals, hardly represents the majority of Christians. Or perhaps I should say thankfully. Most Christians are aware that Global Warming is a fact and that as stewards (not dominionists) of the earth we have to take care of it through our actions. Here's a great article on that:

                                                  http://www.unm.edu/~religion/DrillingCathedral.pdf

As for the Religious Right spreading the Gospel(s), it's hard not to laugh. The religious right tends to focus on leviticus and the old testament. You can pretty much *count* on the religious right to ignore the gospels which preach forgiveness instead of vengeance (Matt 6:14-15; Luke 17:3-4; 23:34), Readiness to suffer instead of violence (Matt 5:38-39), Sharing instead of GREED (Luke 12:33-34; 18:22), Service instead of domination (Luke 22:24-27), and love instead of hatred (Matt 5:43-45; Luke 6:27-31).

If they're going to preach the gospel, they should first learn to live the gospel.

Then peace will rein in the world, well except that one nation belonging to conservatives, they will die to the last one.
