The Rebirth of My.Netscape »
Posted by: tdrapeau 2 years, 10 months agoAt long last, the Netscape team is proud to release a Beta of the next generation My.Netscape, at: http://my.netscape.com. This site will be live tomorrow (Tuesday 3/6). My.Netscape will retain its identity as a personalized homepage, with a minimum of ad clutter. The initial release will in fact have no ads at all! Our programming staff has worked hard to create a framework that allows for scalability and UI elegance.

March 5, 2007, 5:02 p.m.We've been playing around with it internally and really like it, we hope you do too. There really is hardly any clutter, the entire page is content added and personalized by you.

March 5, 2007, 5:13 p.m.It's about freakin' time!!!! LOL. Hey, I hope they took the time necessary and got it right. I really liked the MyNetscape home page. All of my stuff right where I wanted it. Sort of like one stop shopping.

March 5, 2007, 7:19 p.m.Questions related to the Netscape browser should be asked on the community page for the browser. The folks there have a lot more experience and an better help you with specific issues.

March 5, 2007, 8:21 p.m.Aieee!! The strobe flashes made me feel like I was having an acid flashback from the 60's...or that I was being "programmed" by those pesky Greys. Thanx for sharing your experience, RH; now I know I'm not alone.
Gotta tell ya...I was getting so disgusted with the browser freezing up during this downtime, I downloaded Firefox. Hey whaddya want...I'm a gadget kinda guy! LOL

March 5, 2007, 8:34 p.m.Perhaps this is the first step in an honest effort to save the Netscape brand from utter oblivion.
I hope so.

March 6, 2007, 1:06 a.m.I liked the old Netscape too. The good thing added was the news postings and comments, but that should not be the Home page, but a page to choose. I HATE having to select which mail service to send e-mails by. If I forget to select @netscape.net it sends it default as AIM mail and people don't recognize the address and delete it. I want to use ONLY netscape.net for sending and receiving e-mail.
I dumped AOL long ago, didn't like it or its price.

March 6, 2007, 4:59 a.m.Amen to all of your comments, guys! I LOVED the old Netscape with the cool anchor logo. And what in heaven's name is going on with the email...why is AOL getting into the picture?
I was a longtime Netscaper, 'cause it was refreshing to take a break from Internet Explorer. Now I'm getting the same feeling about Netscape. They "fixed" something that was working fine, and that seems to be a common problem in western civilization: we just can't let a good thing be!

March 6, 2007, 11:42 a.m.I, like a number of other responders, am a long time Netscape user. I am glad the MyNetscape is back but am sorry to see that it didn't stay a little closer to the old version. I preferred the lay out a little better but will give this new one a chance. My initial response is that I would like it better if the modules had a little more configuration control besides color. I also ran across a small bug in the weather module regarding zip code references which I have already submitted feedback on.
Still gotta say welcome back to MyNetscape and the crew behind it.

March 6, 2007, 12:05 p.m.Too little too late, i switched to Safari and use the Apple home page. The old 7.2 browser does not work well with Mac OS 10 hence the reason why the My Home page is all messed up

March 6, 2007, 12:38 p.m.My Verizon DSL e-mail does not work in My Netscape Beta! I can neither send nor receive. Everything was fine until this morning when Beta appeared. None of my "preferences" settings has changed; plenty of new mail available through the Verizon home page, but it's cumbersome. Suggestions?

March 6, 2007, 12:42 p.m.Finally having a homepage back is nice, however, I would like to add ZDNET.com as one of my options as it was an original choice under the old "My Netscape."
