The UN has been involved with this sort of thing for years.

Too many ill-informed people show knee-jerk anti-UN prejudices based on pitifully small knowledge of this vast organization.

Cat's response(above)seems of this ilk..."Alas, the UN has purpose" (not a very Christian attitude!)

A recent UN "Decade for natural disaster reduction" (1990-2000) resulted in huge amounts of useful information, shared experience, and disseminated knowledge aimed at prediction, response, mitigation, and recovery from natural disasters. Japan was at the forefront of this initiative. It's own response and mitigation policies have been valuable lessons for other countries similarly effected.

In addition to it's vast and varied other roles, the UN continues, and will continue, to play a useful role in world-wide disaster mitigation.

The only problem with this is the places in the world where a lot of these natural disasters occur have no way to access this "web-playable" game.
