Demand for garlic has spurred an industry offshoot -- gourmet garlic, special varieties that connoisseurs claim are to typical supermarket cloves as a great Gruyere is to processed cheese slices.

    I can't wait to find some different types of garlic. I have to admit-- I'm a little obsessed with it. Add it to recipes when it's not called for, wrote a poem about it once, and happily attended the Garlic Festival in Gilroy last summer.
