Posted by: Spadecaller 2 years, 9 months agoSo Libby has taken the fall. Now maybe special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald can get down to the real business of finding out just why the entire White House smear operation was unleashed--why they went so far as to violate federal law and expose Wilson's CIA-operative wife, Valerie Plame.

March 7, 2007, 7:32 a.m."Entirely forgotten or ignored has been what this leak was all about to begin with."
"For that, you have to go back and look at what Wilson did in the first place that so enraged or frightened the Vice President and the President."
"And that was to go to Niger, one of the poorest nations in Africa, to prove conclusively that there was no truth to a set of forged notes on the letterhead of the Niger embassy in Rome, purporting to be receipts for 400 tons of Niger uranium ore allegedly being sought by Iraq's Saddam Hussein."
The real story and the real crime has yet to be revealed.

March 7, 2007, 9:32 a.m.Just watched a clip this morning on GMA. Jurors are asking some questions and commenting on Libby as the fall guy. The one juror said they know Rove had a larger part, and wondered why he wasn't being charged.

March 7, 2007, 9:38 a.m.Will we ever get the "real" story. When it hits print, let me know and I will read it then.

March 7, 2007, 9:49 a.m.It's a corrupt bunch that are running things. Now that Libby has been convicted, I hope more of the story comes out. Including the theft of the diplomatic stationary and the Italian connection to those whole debacle.
If it were not so tragic, it would be the equivalent of an I Love Lucy plot. Let's hope they finally get caught.

March 7, 2007, 9:51 a.m.Fitzgerald made the comment that nothing more would be done unless new evidence surfaced. I took that to mean 'he' won't be looking for it.

March 7, 2007, 10:30 a.m.I wonder why Fitzgerald is stopping. Cheney's handwritten note should be pretty damning evidence that this goea all of the way to the top.
This makes Watergate look like a garden party.

March 7, 2007, 11:33 a.m.The gravity of the crimes being covered up are so monumental and the reactionary power of the guilty parties involved (Cheney, Rove, Armitage, and Bush)is so great that Fitzgerald and Congress are too afraid to venture forth without irrefutable evidence. This lack of courage and conviction in Washington is a disgrace. We need to demand action from our representatives without delay.

March 7, 2007, 1:05 p.m.The 'real crime' is the cover up of the Niger documents. Bush was told by the CIA that hussein did NOT try to buy uranium. Sooo, they went through evidence planted in the UK that he did. Bush was told by the CIA NOT to use that as fact. He used it as fact anyway. Wilson did an OP ED that brought it out, after we went to war. His wife was 'outed', changing the spotlight from the lie, to the conversation of outing an agent. They also sent Wilson a message. Congress needs to investigate the Niger lie. All trails lead to the oval office.
That lie, of hussein buying uranium, was the tipping point for justifying the war. 'Mushroom cloud' being the rhetoric which followed the lie. The media completely dropped the ball on that lie, once the outing of Wilson's wife happened. That's ALL they talked about, and what Wilson was trying to tell us, got buried.

March 7, 2007, 1:45 p.m.Oh what a tangled web we weave. They are slowly but surely getting caught up in their own web, but the whole story may never be known, at least not in our lifetimes!

March 7, 2007, 1:52 p.m.Any reasonable person must believe that Cheney and Bush willingly manipulated the facts to suit their predetermined agenda for the war in Iraq. The overwhelming evidence shows that the administration exploited Congress, the American people, and our troops. The results of their deceit is unconscionable; in fact, it is tantamount to mass murder and treason.
Wilson's trip to Niger confirmed the false accusation that Hussein had purchased "yellow cake" to obtain uranium for the purpose of constructing nuclear weapons. This nefarious ploy to convince Congress, coalition forces, and the American people to support a preemptive strike against Iraq should be thoroughly investigated. From the highest levels of the Bush administration-- including the President and Vice President -- each and every conspirator should stand before a tribunal, and be held accountable.
However, to encact such a course requires unquestionable proof, courage, and bipartisan support. Do we have these?

March 7, 2007, 3:26 p.m.The words in this article that loom large "act of high treason".....If this can be proven, and it seems reasonable especially in light of the other acts/lies that the Bush group has perpetrated on the American people...that Fitzgerald, our representatives and the media are obligated to move forward...obligated to reveal the truth and obligated to make those individuals accountable. Bush told us at the start that he would dismiss anyone found to have participated in the outing of Plame......

March 7, 2007, 3:47 p.m.Libby was convicted of "obstruction of justice" not of anything else. Read past the headlines. Wilson is proven liar many times over. Again, read something besides the headlines.

March 7, 2007, 4:17 p.m.Checks and balances should be promoted by the Democratic led House of Representatives to investigate all aspects of the reasons we went to war. I know, with all that has occured under Bush's reign, they will be busy but that is what our forefathers foresaw.
In the end a criminal will be pardoned, not maybe but assuredly. Thats why the prosecutor has determined that this case is now over concerning his prosecution unless new information comes forth. Do you really think Libby will tell all?
No way he already has a FREE GET OUT OF JAIL CARD IN HIS POSSESSION. If you deny this fact you are not facing reality within American Politics.
My question, Why did our forefathers give the president carte blanche in having this right? I cannot fathom the point of this benefit other than in the furtherance of criminal behavior. If anyone can give a logical explantion for this power of a president, other than a god given right, I would like to hear it.

March 7, 2007, 4:56 p.m.Been a long time to receive a response. Just please try and give me a logical reason for presidential perogative concerning pardons?

March 7, 2007, 6:11 p.m.Spadecaller - You posted this item, can you attempt to answer my question. I am quite perplexed by this pardon business and would like anyone to give me a rational answer.
I am always open to education.

March 7, 2007, 6:16 p.m.It is hard to believe that the people of this country are so polarized as to the "right" and "left" that half of them are willing to turn a blind eye on this act. People have complained for years and years about how Washington gets more and more criminal all the time, and they feel that as citizens, their hands are tied. Now they have the opportunity to do something about it. They must put personal preferences aside, and demand that their congressmen and Senators band together, and hold these examples of "white trash" responsible for their actions. IF WE ALLOW THEM TO GET AWAY WITH THIS, WE ARE TELLING THE NEXT ADMINISTRATION THAT THEY TOO, CAN GO THIS FAR, AND NOT BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!
Write your congressman, and both your senators and demand a full investigation, as well as criminal prosecution!

March 7, 2007, 6:22 p.m.yes lets get the real story--lets put wilson and plame in front of a grand jury--this whole case is nothing more than prosecutorial abuse of power--at the onset of all this wilson went before the senate intelligence commitee and they concluded EVERYTHING he was saying was not true--for you libs --LIES--cheney didnt send him to niger..his wifey did..etc ..etc..it was armitage who spewed plames identity all over and fitznutso knew a week after taking up his holy quest--that should have ended the case right there--but he decided to go fishing..the part that you left wing conspiracy nuts should be concerned about is that this is pure and simple , the criminalization of political opinion--and that is a real worry--let the libscape name calling begin--go scarlet knights--after 30 years i can finally say that without laughing

March 7, 2007, 6:31 p.m.Thats right avoid the real issue and question I posted above. I make no distinction between Left or right in this question. Should a president have the power of pardon and if so, WHY?????????
Is this a gods gift for a president? Both sides of the aisles president has used it. Hell, Clintons brother was attempting to sell pardons. You Conservatives answer the question, is it right and proper? Should any president be above the law with pardon power?

March 7, 2007, 6:32 p.m.The full story says that there was no illegal outing. The only "guilt" was some stuff that might have been misconstrued, forgotten, etc. The conspiracy buffs should at least look at all conclusions.
My question is, why was it ok for Clinton to lie while someone else gets a jail sentence.
-

March 7, 2007, 6:43 p.m.I give up, either no answer to the question or else its an avoidable issue everyone accepts. Ho Hum.

March 7, 2007, 7:07 p.m.Yes. The President should continue to have Pardon Power. President Ford took the heat and gave Pres. Nixon a pardon for Watergate. History has shown that Mr. Ford wrestled with this decision, and the buck stopped with him. President Ford knew his choice was politically unpopular, yet I believe he sincerely was concerned about the country, enough to withstand the critics. This is leadership.
This power has been used sparingly in U.S. History, and rightly so, yet this is a power we give to any President of any party.
If enough believe that this power is overreaching on the part of the executive, then Congress can try to change The Constitution. (or sneak the matter through the Courts..ala Roe V. Wade). My point is, that I think Pardon power is necessary for The Executive Branch. This power is another reason to chose carefully in "08.

March 7, 2007, 7:22 p.m.i know you all are salivating at the thought of libby in an orange jump suit--but the sentencing guidelines being screamed by the dinosaur media are for the maximum possible sentence--which im sure they and most of libscape want him to get--if this judge follows precedent and is realistic..which he has already shown he's not and biased..libby should get 18 mos to 3 years or so..suspended ..or house arrest of some kind..first offense ..no flight risk ..no danger to the public etc..but lets see..it will take a year of more to get through appeals...and i think theres a lot to appeal..unsuccessfully tho i think--a lot can happen in a year or two-----go scarlet knights
