Uncovering Sex and Sexuality Censorship in Today's Business World »
Posted by: JaneMay 2 years, 9 months agoThe level of censorship and phobias around sex and sexuality that exit in today's business world are astounding. While mostly naked swimsuit models are splashed on every magazine cover and billboard nationwide, the mere mention of sex or implied sexuality will get your ad pulled faster than you can say "sex".

March 8, 2007, 5:11 p.m.America's always been ridiculously puritanical regarding sex, sexuality and nudity. Why should the business place be any different.
Violence however.. America loves that. Can't get enough.

March 8, 2007, 6:14 p.m.Its when a child goes on the internet and a Sex site comes up instead of the intended item, then I have a problem. If a Sexual site wants to advertise then stop using various words other than SEX to entice minors.
Nothing wrong with the word sex but many unscrupulous characters use deceptive means to entice minors to their own perverted web sites. I think that is only commons sense, police your own before condeming all.

March 9, 2007, 1:02 a.m.I remember a job, which I had about twelve years ago in Colorado, working for a high-tech firm. There had been some alleged 'sexual harassment' and the woman in charge of this department gave all we employees a week-long seminar regarding the subject. It did wonders for our productivity, natch. This harpy must have been the last of the radical feminists, as her point of view was so P.C. Stalinist - as well as curiously, implicitly anti-heterosexual. Listening to her speeches, one could easily assume that she believed in 'thought crimes', as well as stern punishment for having them.
I wrote an anonymous memo and secretly passed it around about how she was attacking our Free Speech Rights under the First Amendment. She and her P.C. ideology were also making it tougher for we workers to even vaguely entertain the idea of a Union. Not that Unions had any importance to her, next to making sure that certain minorities never would be verbally 'harassed', or even thoughts to the same.

So there's a word that will get you into quicker and larger trouble with your employer than the word 'sex', that word is: 'Union'.

March 9, 2007, 7:57 a.m.I am trying to understand the issue that is raised in this op-ed piece. The writer has complete freedom of speech to say what he wants to his audience but he is complaining about other people making economic decisions about his free choices. There has been a nearly constant uproar on Netscape over the words of Ann Coulter and most of the anti-Ann writers (political liberals) were encouraging economic boycotts for her site. They weren't anti-free speech (so they say) they are just anti-Ann Coulter. So here you have someone who wants to advertise something (adult content) that some people object to so there is an economic boycott or avoidance of it, and these same liberals are upset. This "country" doesn't have a problem with sex but within this country are large groups of people who hold differing views on what is appropriate. These groups (all kinds) represent potential revenue and everyone makes a free choice. What is the problem with that?

March 9, 2007, 10:25 a.m.The story does have great points. The main one is saying that we as parents need to be parents. However, we know that we use the electric babysitter most of the times...ie TV or computer. We might use videos of our babysitters as You Got Caught. Most dont really monitor our childrens TV or Computer time. If you assume that parents do more than work. Most of the time your wrong! As far as censorship, we as the people are allowed to censor anything we want to as parents or business under our rights.
We are allowed to place our business to spend its moneys on what we think will be the best for our lives or business's. You can call it a censorship thing or you may want to use gay to call more an uproar.
The govt has to accept or not on any of our rights. Majority rules right. They cannot rescrict our rights unless we dont want it. Apparently, We want some of your rights denied. Right or wrong, you have to deal with it. Our govt represents We The People. Continued...

March 9, 2007, 10:49 a.m.Further evidence that people are, on the subject of sexuality, nuts:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/08/nyregion/08vagin
The article concerns the use of the word vagina in a public school setting. A quote from the piece:
"The principal, Rich Leprine, said on Tuesday that the girls were told not to use the word because young children could be in the audience...."
The wacky assumption is that young children shouldn't be exposed to the names of body parts IF those parts have a sexual function.

March 9, 2007, 12:35 p.m.It's no wonder schools and businesses are paranoid about sex. When 6 year olds are expelled for sexual harrasment and you can't even tell a woman she looks nice at work without fear that some feminatzi will try to get you fired. You reap what you sew.

April 6, 2007, 11:17 p.m.It's part of our American paradox - puritanical paradox that is. What goes on behind closed doors stays behind closed doors. Don't dare bring it out in the open where someone might see it or hear it, or God forbid, talk about it.
Consider all those right-wing Christian fundamental preachers who've been caught either with their secretaries or another guy; or the Catholic priests who've been caught with the kiddies. But every Sunday morning you'll hear them preach against the wages of sexuality.
From the government on down, this country is a collection of sexual hypocrites. Do it but don't talk about it. Hell if we talked about it openly and honestly, I wager we'd have less teen pregancies, less STDs, and a more mature country.
I even go so far say we'd probably not be in Iran since the old addage of Make Love Not War would be a guiding light.
Oh well. Long live great sex!!
