Sharks hunted to extinction in the Mediterranean »

The great white shark is being hunted to extinction in the Mediterranean, while angel sharks have disappeared altogether from the North Sea according to a report from the UN's Food and Agriculture Organisation meeting in Rome.

    Sad, sad story. After the shark probably tuna fish will disappear too, from Mediterranean. If you see pictures from tuna fishing from 30 years ago in Spain, you are amazed by the abundancy of this fish. Try to go tuna fishing these days...

      Thank you for the story. In Australia's far north we have a huge problem with Indonesian poachers "finning" sharks for the lucrative Chinese market. I have seen video of the practice, it is violent and inhumane. As a surfer, I believe if you are going to take something from the ocean- especially for food, you damn well want to make sure you use all of it.

      Whaling is another obscene practice. I love Japan (I live here) but contrary to what a lot of people think- Whale meat has never been a huge part of a traditional Japanese diet. Whaling only began in earnest just after WWII, when food was scarce and whale meat was seen as a cheap source of protein.
