Calif. Brush Fire Forces Evacuations of at least 100 homes »

Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 10 months ago

Authorities evacuated at least 100 homes as a fast-moving brush fire scorched 300 acres of parched hillside Sunday and crept into backyards, Orange County fire officials said. The fire, stoked by hot dry winds and fueled by dry chaparral, quickly doubled in size in an unincorporated part of Orange County and threatened homes here and in Anaheim Hil

Now it's up to 500 homes, apparently ... well, preacher65, there's definitely a lack of rainfall this year, both in N and S CA.

Sad, very sad... But would a prayer or meditaion or whatever you do really hurt? NO! So preacher65 it was a nice gesture.

If this was a N.O. story someone would have already said "well you knew the risk when you moved there!" Alasklady, you said it but not in a nonchalant way disregarding life. I don't endorse that belief but I'm just saying. Either way natural disasters (hurricanes, flash floods, fires, blizzards, tsunamis) are scary and destructive and my heart goes out to each person that deals with tragedy regardless of the depth of your pockets, color of your skin, or religion you choose (or not).

A question you Californians might be able to answer: Other than cost, what is the reason to no type of irrigation systems in high risk areas? I know it's not as simple as setting one up on my property or farmland but still just a question... that's all!

THE DANGER OF ESCALATING THE IRAQI SITUATION IS THAT WE WILL BE LEFT WITH AN UNFINISHED CONFRONTATION WHEN IT COMES TIME FOR PRESIDENT BUSH TO LEAVE OFFICE AT THE END OF HIS TERM. WE ARE BEING PULLED IN TO A BOTTOMLESS PIT FROM WHICH THE ONLY EXTRACTION IS TO REMOVE ONE'S TROOPS AND PUT AN EMBARGO ON IRAQ OIL EXPORTS TO ANYWHERE. THOSE WHOM MIGHT OPPOSE SUCH MEASURES SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT PRESIDENT BUSH IS NOT PREVENTING HUMANITARIAN AID, MEDICINE, FOOD ETC. TO GO IN AND OUT OF IRAQ, ONLY OIL AND OIL REVENUES WOULD BE CURTAILED. AS FOR MR CHAVEZ, HE IS AFRAID WE WILL DO THE SAME TO HIS CASH FLOW. IT APPEARS TO BE A POPULAR PRACTICE TO TRY TO DRAW THE USA INTO WAR. REMEMBER THE "MOUSE TRHAT ROARED" OLD MOVIE.

This will happen over and over. Any botanist will tell you that the chaparral cycle is to burn out every five years. The native plants have a type of seed that must be fired to crack its outer shell so the plants can keep replenishing. People also don't do enough brush clearing around their homes.

So the fires will only stop when they've paved over everything and destroyed the reasons they wanted to live there in the first place.

The planet will be fine, it's people we can't be so sure about.

My mother lives in that area, right by where the fire was and according to her some idiot started it because of a stolen car being pushed , driven off the side of one of the toll roads in the area. One of many fires started in that area to threaten their homes because some one did not think.

Do you like this? Is it fun? How about 125 degrees in July with gas at $5 a gallon? This will be the worst summer since the riots of '92.
