Despite a cultural reluctance to spend more than 30 minutes making dinner, a growing number of Americans are happy to invest plenty of time - and money - cooking up gourmet grub for their domesticated partners.

I know many people who "cook" for their pets. It is not gourmet food though. It may be a meatloaf made of ground turkey or beef with added rice and vegetables, etc. They garbage they try to pass off as dog food or cat food is just that "garbage". I myself had dogs that developed pancreatitis from food too high in fats. They actually drench dry dog food in fat to make is palatable to the dog. Also the animal "by-products" not fit for human consumption is thrown into it also. The increase of tumors, cancers and disease can be attributed to this "garbage" dog food---check the labels...

Its true that many brands sell poor quality foods. But there is a big change happening in the dog food industry thanks to independent retailers who sell small amounts of high quality products rather than the giants who typically sold high volumes of low quality products. The big boys are now getting on the band wagon but please read your labels carefully and ask an independent what to look for.

they are animals!! one who would spend more time cooking for their dogs and cats than for themselves have a mental disorder. again, they are animals!! go to a meat market, buy some real bones and red raw meat and watch them grow strong and healthy.

Mine deserve the best too, I choose the responsibility to care and provide a good life for my pets. But think about how animals in captivity live longer then wild animals, a reason has to be because of their diet. I've never seen kitty cats hunting and eating a cow, or a tuna in the ocean lol anyways...if you want to feed your pet a more natural diet, then make sure you do it the correct way, and with all the essential vitamins etc..that they need.

This story brings back fond memories! One of our clients came to my Clinic to learn how to cook for her dog. Fortunately, one of the counselors on my staff was an expert on human nutrition and a highly respected dog breeder. We were very scientific in our efforts - using the best information available on how to maintain a dog's health via optimal nutrition. It was an interesting experience.....as if people did this every day.
