Posted by: elzorro2162 2 years, 8 months ago

The struggle against torture and cruel treatment of prisoners by the U.S. received a major boost this week. In its recently concluded meeting, the National Association of Evangelicals board of directors last weekend endorsed an important new statement - An Evangelical Declaration of Torture: Human Rights in an Age of Terror.

The tide is changing and it seems the religious right is finally right and moving center. These are exciting news and the bells toll for the imminent death of the marriage between Republicans and evangelicals. Thank God!

Wonder what Cheney thinks of this? Are these people morally confused?

This is afterall Ted Haggard's old group. They sent him away to stop being gay. Now he wants be a psychologist. I thought this group disdained such humanistic endeavors?

But really isn't it the religious leaders that need to be conferencing amongst themselves and solving the religious based issues that often cause terrorist acts? Because Islam has no true center (other than Allah) there appears to be no authority capable of bringing groups like Al Qaeda under control. Why is there not a massive effort to get Eastern and Western religious leaders together to deal with these issues? If you look at the root of the problem it is religion. Either a misperception of its intent or outright misuse of its tenets. That is where the solution lies. Not in killing them all which has proved about as effective as stomping on an anthill.

What took so long for understanding and common sense. The religious have been their own worst enemies to convert others not of their faith. I was amazed at the lunacy of their rhetoric concerning approval of the denial of Global warming, the Iraqi war and all wars in general. Torture and espousing all that our current leader stands for is not of the norm.

Now that their is disenchantment within their own ranks, it shows hope prevails in the world. The dogma's of one party should never prevail to one's own religious belief. Thinking and having an opinion on any one topic should not be influenced by any one religion or party affiliation. Individuals must draw their own conclusions through their own life experiences. Does an individual need a group opinion to draw conclusions. Hypothesize for yourself.

Its good to hear that the evangellicals are starting to think for themselves, and not vote en-mass for the conservatives. I'd like to see them to start voting on economic issues, stop supporting tax cuts for the super rich, who would never go near a church. Walmart is running an ad congratulating themselves for creating jobs, after they desimate a region of all its small business. When I see evangelicals protesting this and becoming aware of these type issues...then maybe I'll start respecting the chruch. But its never intelligence, its always god, guns, gays, abortion. Meaningless issues that are allowing the super rich get richer, with evangelical votes.

It is good to see that this administration's descent into the barbarity of torture and the suspension of basic human rights has finally caused some principled opposition from one of it's core constituencies.

If Wallis were against torture then he would have been in favor of the Iraq War. Saddam was the one who massacred tens of thousands with chemical weapons, tortured those who spoke against his regime and had rape rooms for the womenfolk.

Instead Wallis implies, with the leftist media, liberal pundits and self-anointed moralist Democrat politicians that Bush has authorized actual torture for which there is no evidence. (Please do not bring up Abu Graib where some misfits got their jollies abusing, not torturing, prisoners.) Accusations of torture are flying everywhere yet where is it? Produce some evidence.

Let's quit the grandstanding and self-righteous declarations against torture that is not occuring.

Most people do not realize that Bush and Wallis used to be friends. That was before 9/11. Wallis told Bush that the reason we were attacked by the terrorists was because of the poverty in the Middle East. Bush was rightly offended by such nonsense and it ended their friendship. I wonder if this is a kind of revenge (this implying Bush tortures people).

An awful lot of people that call themselves true Christians ignore torture, violence, the imprisoned, the poor, and the person lying on the ground begging, and they judge everyone. For them, the torture never happened, or it's not our fault, we didn't go warmongering, we went there to "defend" ourselves, people who are in prison for drugs, prositution, --whatever-- deserve it and should live with rats and eat bread and water, and they guy lying on the ground just wants more booze. They read the words of Yeshua the way they want and ignore his message. Go figure.

What happen to you guys and the media when our soldiers were captured and tortured. There fingers were shot off one by one , throat cut and decapitations. Not one damn word from the lot of you. No wonder the American Soldier comes back home depressed. You give better treatment to the enemy than you do them. You hardly ever hear of the good a lot of the soidiers do over there especially from the media. Only because they have a politcal agenda they don't want to tarnish. A lot of soldiers reach out and help Iraqi families especially the children but the press won't cover that. They don't want us to know how what you call insurgents(terrorist)are killing their own to gain power. They believe in mudering people that don't belive the way they want them to. It matters not whether they are women or children. It is always a pleasure to hear from jackasses like you.

It is a sad day when evangelical Christians say they are against torture and it is newsworthy. These are the end times, most certainly.

Maybe, just maybe George Bush is the Anti-Christ with all this torture stuff and the New World Order, 9/11 Conspiracy, State and Corporate control keeping us in perpetual war and so on leading us into Armeggedon. And, maybe just maybe true Christians are finally realizing they have been following a false prophet which may lead them into Hell. Another false Prophet for true Christians to watch out for may be. Rush Limbaugh. Is he a false AM radio prophet? He never mentions Christ on his show? He never lets a Christian on his show speak out. If you get a chance ask him if he believes that Jesus is his savior? False prophets will most likely come from the right not the left or middle. Don't be deceived. Christians must read between the lines and watch the right closely to avoid deception and false flag patriotism.
