March 16, 2007, 8:59 p.m.Chiquita said Banadex "had been forced to make payments to right- and left-wing paramilitary groups in Colombia to protect the lives of its employees. The payments made by the company were always motivated by our good faith concern for the safety of our employees."
But many aspects of the case remain unresolved in Colombia, where the chief prosecutor's office was preparing Friday to ask the administration of President Bush for details.

March 17, 2007, 8:07 a.m.So, let's see, they basically have to pay protection money because the Colombian government is too impotent to control it's own country, and this was necessary to protect the lives of employees and the business itself... and now these guys are basically "in collusion with terrorists."
Ten years ago, they'd be called victims.
As I see it, the government is who is in collusion here, for allowing this to go on in the first place. How many other businesses like coffee growers have to do this?
Is Juan Valdez a terrorist?
