Winter warmth breaks all records »

Posted by: Aidenag 2 years, 7 months ago

Winter in the northern hemisphere this year has been the warmest since records began more than 125 years ago, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says. The combined land and ocean surface temperature from December to February was 0.72C (1.3F) above average.

The problem with these studies is that they don't really say enough. We are expected to just believe without thinking for ourselves.HOW you collect the data is as important as the data itself. The study says Dec '06 was the warmest on record in the US.In CO, where I live Dec. '06 was very cold.My family in CT noted how warm it was there during the same period.Does every state have a data point?Do some have more than one?Is CO temps weighted the same as CT temps despite occupying a much greater square mileage? Is the data collected by sattelite over a grid or randomly across the country, or do they just go out back and read a thermometer? This kind of info would be very helpful in judging the validity of the study. As I recall in grade school when you did a lab report you had to have a "Method" section so your teacher could see the validity of HOW you got your data. Why won't the scientific community make this info more easily available?Does anybody know where to find this info?

I could use some of that warming trend where I live. We have set and are continuing to set cold records that go back 50 years. Come on people, time to share.

Well, let's see what happens next. How many years of continually rising temperatures that correlate with CO2 emissions will it take until a conclusion can be drawn from the data?

Doesn't it just make sense for all of us to conserve wherever we can, just in case there is a tie between global warming and human activity? And if there is no such link, so what? I will still have helped a tiny bit to reduce pollution. Certainly not a bad thing.

I thought I noticed that extra 1.3 degrees!! Especially in February, which was the 4th coldest on record in the Northeast.

Yeah I'm going to have to call bullsh!t on this one too, I reside in Denever, Colorado and many of you might have heard of the two months of continuous snow and record low temperatures we're recovering from. I've heard we've risen something like 0.7 degrees celcius in the past one hundred years? The Earth's temperature is supposed to fluctuate over long periods of time. When Al Gore himself starts living more green, I'll think about not driving my SUV so much. Until then, I've earned it, get the nannyists out of my hair.

Don't know nuttin bout warmin in Florida. We getting colder and have been for over 100 years.

Citrus is a cold sensitive crop which is harvested in the winter (Nov-Mar). Fruit is damaged at 32 degrees F and trees are damaged at 29 degrees F.

In 1890 there were commercial citrus groves throughout all of Florida extending into coastal GA and SC. By 1960 the north line was Macintosh, FL. By 1980 the north line was Leesburg, FL. Today the north line is Kissimmee, FL.

Since 1890, the north line of commercial citrus has moved south over 250 miles due to progressively colder winters.

Obviously this is a long term trend which shows no sign of abating.

So I guess the whole world is getting warmer except for Florida which is getting colder?

Mr Gore, how is this possible?

Ok one more time, Global Warming is about a few degrees, if we were talking about a day that would have been 82 being 84 you would never notice, thats not really what you would notice it's the change in weather patterns that you will see first, and that could mean some places will be hotter or some places will be colder it could also mean someplaces will not see as much seasonal change as they are use to. Weather a place is hotter or colder then it was last year does nothing to prove or disprove global warming.

I used to think that Global Warming was a crock too... but not anymore. The numbers just don't lie. Consider the fact that 10 of the 12 warmest years (in the Northern Hemisphere)since records first started being kept, have taken place since 1995. Doesn't that seem kind of odd? In Upstate NY our winter didn't start until Jan 15th. When I was a kid we had snow on the ground from November until April. I like the trend... but I worry what it will be like when my grandkids are adults. I think we've created a problem that can't be fixed.

Uh , it states twice in the article that it is not from man made greenhouse gases , I forgot I'm illiterate and can't read .

What I have seen , most of NOAA does not buy into Gullible Warning , except when they need grants .

We (humans) are pretty arrogant to think we could effect such a thing as the Earths atmosphere , kind of makes us Gods , so some of the more ego driven people would believe .

To think that humans can't effect their own atmosphere is the falacy here. There are more people in the world now than there has ever been as we know it.And a lot of them want what they have seen us use as a daily standard for two generations now. Can't blame them for that. But collectively it is damaging. It's not just the fossil fuels we burn. The waste that large corporations have routinely dumped in the oceans over decades is taking it's toll to.We have to do what we can now to try to head off truely dire effects that our grandkids will have to put up with.

We have George speaking quite often with hot air expelled, now how could the world then be warming?
