OpEd: Is the Sergeant not a great Marine, because he's gay? »

Posted by: TechnologyExpert 2 years, 8 months ago

Recently, a great young Marine Sergeant, who was the first serviceman wounded in Iraq, lost both his legs below the knee and had to leave the service, told the world he was gay. So what? Does that mean that for the 10 years he served this nation, he wasn't a great Marine, because he was gay? That thought is full of what drops out of a cow's rear.

"We can all remember, or should remember, a war in which black Americans were not allowed to fight alongside white Americans - that being World War II. We can all remember when women were not supposed to go into combat; well, the war in Iraq for sure has that rule busted into little pieces."

The man, ERIC ALVA is far more than merely a great Marine; he is an outstanding American, and a bon a fide HERO! I sincerely thank him for his service and sacrifice in the defense of our country.

The man has continued to show bravery, and the highest courage by "coming out" since this all happened. I applaud his decision to speak out for his fellow gay service men and women!

Once again, I offer SSG. Alva my upmost thanks, and I wish him and his lover all the best!

Clearly one of the best parts of this article is when Col. David Hunt says:

"This is a non-issue, a diversion designed to get us to look away from the criminally bad care of our wounded soldiers that was all the rage just last week. Fix that problem "Pete," and then we might give a damn what you think is immoral or not."

I couldn't have said it better myself...thank you Col. Hunt!
