Great news. In earlier post, before this great news, some moron said "I guess he is not going to get his survival badge". Well he earned it big time! This is great news for the family and all those who worked their tails off in the search.

Get this kid his Wilderness Survival Merit Badge. He earned it the hard way.

Great to know this turned out so well. Be Prepared!

Many Thanks to all the people who worked to find him.

I'm an Eagle Scout, and I never was taught to cover myself with leaves to prevent hypothermia. What if it had rained? He would have probably been more at risk of hypothermia that way since the leaves would have trapped water near his body.

A better thing to do would have been to start a campfire. It would keep him warm and provide a signal for rescuers to look for.

Well, whatever, at least he's okay. I agree it is nice to hear a happy ending on the news for once.

After 3 days I gave up that kid up for dead. I really was concerned about predators in that part of the area that he could've easily encountered. I'm just so glad that he's alive, & that he's back with his folks again!

I was an eagle scout too, and the only thing I was tought was how to play lick the scout leader

I want to know how he became lost in the first place. But other than that, it's good to hear he's okay.

Not very often that these things turn out well. I'm glad this one did. The article says he was homesick and was trying to hike to the highway so he could hitchhike home. Unbelievable. I can't help but wonder if this kid will be a future Darwin Award winner. Sorry if that sounds cold, but you have to admit that was a darn stupid thing to do.

I used to carry a small Nuclear Reactor with me when I was a Boy Scout. It provided heat and powered a small T.V. set and short wave radio in my backpack. I could send out for Pizza and cokes while awaiting rescue. Man, I sure miss those days.

This story is a joke and the kids family should be responsible for paying the total cost of the rescue efforts. A 12 year old kid who was found a mile and a half away from where he was lost? He had a mess kit and 2 jackets with him when he left? They were seaching for this kid with heat sensitive devices and were not able to locate him. How do you end up a mile and a half away when you are missing for 3 days? This kid is either a genius for eluding the people searching for him ,or a complete idiot.
