Oldest chunk of Earth's crust ever found »
Posted by: capn_caveman 2 years, 8 months agoThe oldest known chunk of Earth's crust has been found in Greenland, and dates back at least 3.8 billion years. The substantial rock is an important find, because it is a type known as ophiolite and provides the best evidence yet that continental drift had been going on for at least a billion years longer than thought.

March 22, 2007, 5:47 p.m.This is a cool story, but I have to show my stupidity here. How do these rocks get to the surface? The story didn't explain that, so I am guessing by volcanic eruptions, and being thrown onto the surface.
Am I close?
