March 23, 2007, 6:59 p.m.Common European Army? Would their ideas replace NATO as unneeded and duplicitous? Would we need to re-evaluate the US position as a world leader? Would Europe become the next superpower? Lots of tough questions. What do you readers think?

March 23, 2007, 7:35 p.m.The EU has been building for 50 years, & the last few years exerting more emphasis on becoming 'one,' especially with the monetary system being converted to Euro's. The UK stayed with the pound, however. It's not surprising that with our current climate, they want to bolster their military powers. Achieving that might be difficult, as many countries don't like being under the dictates of other than their own. Coming together for their own protections does make sense to me. Achieving it won't be easy.

March 23, 2007, 7:40 p.m.How will the former Eastern bloc countries fit in with the new European Army? Wouldn't countries like Ukraine and Belarus be somewhat fearful of having Europe's armies amassed right at their borders? Not that a unified European army would ever lead an invasionary force, but it could happen.
