People Banned From SNL »

Posted by: charbarred 2 years, 9 months ago

Saturday Night Live's producers, especially Lorne Michaels, have famously and dramatically banned for life several celebrities from ever appearing on the television show. Reasons for these bans vary, as sometimes they can be seen as a rational response to a star's grossly innappropriate on-stage behavior, while at other times the reasons are harder

It leaves out one I remember seeing live in '82 or '83 with Andy Kaufman and The Pretenders.

Kaufman had gotten religion, and spent an inordinate amount of time "preaching", including when he came out to introduce The Pretenders, when he went on for so long they had to go to commercial instead of letting The Pretenders play (even though they stood there the whole time, instruments in hand). Kaufman also introduced his religious "girlfriend" and may have even let her sing.

Knowing what we know about Kaufman now it could have all been a put-on, but it still seems like the most awkward thing I had ever seen on SNL (and I saw many of the moments listed in the entry).

"Robert Blake...crumpled up a script presented to him by cast member and writer Gary Kroeger and threw it back in his face."

Gary Kroeger was lucky Robert didn't blow his head off with a pistol that he had forgotten and left in a restaurant....

Fun article. Maybe SNL can have Andrew Dice Clay on so he can be banned, too.

I think its funny that Lorne Michaels is infamous for hating improvisation.

SNL used to be a great show, however the last three or four seasons have really sucked.

SNL has gone from the evening entertainment I waited all week to see, to becoming the show I forget to watch cause I no longer care about it. SNL is just not funny. I would rather watch Comedy Central or Adult Swim.

Censorship ruined SNL. Never will be as good as the 70s and 80s. I do not even understand the show any more. It is not even remotely funny.

Only brain dead wepucks will watch the show. Anything except join the military.
