Prior to the release of the third letter, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, whose government has insisted that its navy personnel were captured in Iraqi waters, immediately denounced the broadcast and said it would only lead to further isolation for Iran. The standoff has added to tensions over Iran's nuclear ambitions and over allegations that Iran is arming Shiite Muslim militias in Iraq.

The Iranians have WAY overplayed their hand on this. They should have released AT LEAST Ms. Turney when they said she would. Assuming she has been treated reasonably well (and there is no reason to believe otherwise) her release might have helped defuse the situation.

This is not helping Iran's self-interest.

The Iranians have the same problem with their government as the US, the people have lost control while the lunatic governments on both sides keep playing these insane power games such as suddenly decide to have war games off the shores of Iran during this latest hostage spat.

            Stupid is as Stupid does.

You know, it's bad when WE take "enemy" personnel and lock them up -- but presumably we have found them actually ON a "battlefield" or have discovered them INVOLVED in a plot of some sort. And, presumably they have been taken from a "combat" area in a country we are actively "defending." But for the Iranians to cross a border, nab uniformed soldiers from Britain - who they are NOT at war with - and then put them through these ordeals that are forbidden by International law AND the Geneva Accords (which DO apply here) is simply unacceptable behavior. The U.N. and NATO should both be insisting in the most forceful manner that these people be released at once. Then, after 24 hours, start moving troops into place. I can't imagine why anyone would think it was OK to put up with this crap for even a day.

i think it's possible that the british were operating in iranian waters and if so iran had the right to seize them. we have spec ops operating in iran.

however, it's absolutely wrong of iran to broadcast pictures or tapes of captured foreign troops though. it's wrong when we did it. it's wrong when they do it.

I've always wondered why goverments put up with this b.s. terrorists have no right to take hostages. It should be a top priority to rescue all hostages, if they don't realease them get snipers in there to take out their leaders. sanctions my a$$. how long do we play games with these terroristic people.lets call in the libs, maybe they can talk sense to them, in the meantime they will be beheaded or thrown off a airplane onto the concrete..

Since "Coward Carter" was in the office,I see "Iranian Problems" on my tv all the times disturbing my peace. Please, please, please, nuke Iran. I am sick and tired of the problems they causing internationally. What is that, more than 30 years and kept on going, man U.N. is not going to do anything. Just nuke them or bomb them,

So i can watch the news peacefully.
