"We are shocked. In one month six lions have been killed"

In all six cases, claws, skulls and bones of the lions were missing when their carcasses were found at the Gir wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat.

The bones are used for traditional Chinese medicine and the claws are worn by some men as pendants in the hope of increasing their virility.

As if these cats didn't already have enough to endure, the fight to stop this kind of thing goes on. Sad.

Instead of just punishing poachers, law enforcement should focus on those found in possession of the body parts.

The Indians' and Asians' "resource management style" is starting to look a little ugly....

These are the same people who cut a shark's fins off and then throw him back to die in agony, or kill a nearly extinct rhino to only cut its horn off and then let the animal rot on the ground-

-not to mention pressure google into censoring Tienemin Square inquiries-

The worst part is its always for some stupid aphrodisiac or something. Really, doesn't India have enough Indians, China have enough Chinese? I thought China in particular was overpopulated and selling us their surplus girl-babies.

Poachers from any country must pay...

These endangered animals that are being eliminated after living here for so many millennia can't protect themselves or avenge themselves...

Humans are destroying them. Humans have to save them.

Those damn poachers! May they boil in oil! Lions are my favorite animals, they're so regal, and majestic looking. They don't deserve that fate!

There is no room in this world any longer for such ignorance. I don't know what the answer is, but one has to be found. To allow a very few to impact the whole in this way is beyond excuse.

It's my experience that poachers shoot game wardens on a regular basis and combined with really low pay there is little incentive to protect the game.

A few of the african nations are using tourism to pay for game reserves and their managment including game wardens with a shoot to kill policy.

Things like this makes me wonder why we bother with these countries!! They are so stupid to consider eating animals parts for cures and then you have the rich jerks that will pay to have a nice lion rug in front of the fire place.

BOYCOTT any thing made by or from these countries!

As long as there is a market they will continue the killing.

Being a Leo this makes me very sad. Of all the cats the lion is truly a noble beast. But as much as this makes people mad it has always happened. And it will always happen until goverments take a stronger stand against things like this. But I really do not see that happening in my life time. Once again a noble creature is destroyed for the folly of man.

Do these poachers like they do the Elephant Poachers in Nina. On the spot no questions ask. That is the only thing that will even cause the poacher to think about not doing this again.

Indians do not use Lion , elephant, Tiger or Rhino parts for any aphrodesiac, virility charm etc. It is against Hinduism. Its the Rich Chinese who use the parts. Poor Chinese cant afford the $500 an ounce.

Just to clear the Air for those of the uneducated masses who think otherwise.

But before we go attacking the Asians, remember we kille dout the passenger pigeon because it was fun. We have endangered the polar bear, hunted whales, kodiaks, timber wolves and grey wolves to near extinction and we have a few fools out west who arrange coyote hunting sprees....yeah, we are really better than the asians.

Animals have rights just like people, but like people, if no one defends their rights, its all hot air. Humans and animals get abused daily, who wants to stop it?

i dont have a prob with a hunter killing and eating the meat unless its an endangered species....and deer rnt

this story about big cats is sad but i dont think there is much we can do about it in africa...what americans can change tho is protecting our own national treasures, our own endangered species which the current admin has assulted by gutting the list....bushes plan to sell off more national parks lands needs stopped but with this admin there r sooo many probs its hard to make govt lands a headline item....many of these lands he wants to sell r small strips so peops dont see the big problem but if they r coridors that r important in migration patterns they should be protected

The thrill of the hunt is cool.

Spraying yourself with Eau de deer pee scent is another thing.

The meat? Lean and quite good, as long as you have a good recipe. I like Elk and Buffalo is good, but I don't think it is game meat anymore.

Gross to find a few hairs in a steak. (I did that to myself the first time I cooked it...)

I like the stuff cooked in a slow cooker for hours, til it falls apart.

Philosophy: as long as I can afford to go to the butcher, I will.

The significant other got an albino deer one year and the tanned hide is sitting in the basement, after years of telling to mount it on a nice piece of oak and put it on the wall. That was very cool. It didn't snow that year. The poor (dear) deer didn't have a chance.

Look its sad that an endangered species is being poached, but the public always seems to focus on endangered species why not focus on their dissapearing habitats. THat never gets as much media attention as on species.

they just had a special running on animal planet about those lions. I hope none of the six were the ones on the special.....they were in pretty rough shape already. there are very few left and they only live in one small area. apparently they were almost wiped out by game hunting about a century(?) ago i think they were down to only 20.
