April 1, 2007, 6:13 p.m.(("the statue is meant to show respect to the millions of people around the world who earn their money in prostitution"))

April 1, 2007, 11:23 p.m.What, its not sad. Its honoring the oldest profession. I equate prostitution laws with prohibition laws, lunacy. Your politicians, doctors, lawyers, bankers and every other trade uses the prostitute so why not legalize, tax and attach health regulations to keep it safe. If that women madam in D.C. could show you her client list I'm sure you would be amazed.
Now first, I don't need, don't use them, don't want to since I am happily married but I'm not so hypocritical as most religious are to refute the trade and then use it.
Oh, the hypocrisy of our leaders and most Americans, and we are talking about the oldest profession.

April 2, 2007, 12:11 a.m.Warped:"I think prostitution is an honorable profession. These women work hard and deserve some recognition."
Yes! let's honor them also, for spreading certain incurable venereal disease's too.
...........You really live up to your name, don't you?

April 2, 2007, 12:48 a.m.Well, I think it's great they are acknowledging and honoring that besides being one of the "oldest" that it is also a profession. And work, ya, I'd say its work, just imagine some of the "jobs" ya'd have todo and on what you'd have todo it on, brrr, would give me the heebeegeebees. Not to mention the stigmas associated with that profession.

Like I said lets just honor and put up a statue for the drug dealers oh and the robbers too,now they work really hard ,trying to steal all your crap is hard work for them I hear.Just like with the drug dealers, they have to pound the streets daily to make a buck, why not put up one for them too.

April 2, 2007, 9:32 a.m.I love it when Christians start ranting, expecially self rightous morons like DNS here. These morons are almost inevitable perverts, like Rev Haggart, who preached to his mega church against gay marriage while smoking crack and being sodomised by a gay prosititute.
We should "erect" a statue to all the fundamentalist evangelical hypocrites who use prostitutes.
When ever there is a baptist convention in a hotel, the rental of porn from cable channel skyrockets.

April 2, 2007, 10:56 a.m.That was scary...
You know, if only religion didn't condemn sex as an evil, sinful act, I think the world would be a better place. Religious anti-sex arguments don't apply now that we have ways to protect ourselves from STDs and the world is already overpopulated.

April 2, 2007, 8:19 a.m.The double standard- in any city, on any given night, any number of woman are giving it up because the guy bought a lavish dinner, etc, "knew how to show a woman a good time." Still more are spending yet another evening with a guy they married in large part because he was "financially successful."
Prostitutes are just more direct about their financial transactions.

April 2, 2007, 8:56 a.m.Living in Holland I happen to know a little about this. The girls in the redlight district are not volunteers. They are the equivalent of modern day slaves. They are forced into prostitution by organized crime. If you look at the redlight district you would see that the girls working there are separated into little blocks. For example all the women from Surinam are in one area, the women from Thailand in another and all the women for Eastern Europe in another and so on. Each block is controlled by a different organized crime gang. As for the liberal Dutch it is not that they are so enlighten it is just that the majority of the girls are from places other than Holland thus they don't care and turn a blind eye to this modern day slavery. They will do nothing because they don't want to upset the left wing in Holland that still view prostitution under the outdated myth of a victimless crime or worst as some form of feminist empowerment. It is complete and utter nonsense!

April 2, 2007, 9:25 a.m.All of these posters who denigrate protitutes never mention the other side - the JOHNS. Prostitutes wouldn't be in business if not for their endless supply of customers. Why is it alright to buy but not okay to sell?
-

April 2, 2007, 10:09 a.m.Whether prostitution is an honorable profession or not is really not the question. The question is why has there always been a demand for prostitutes? Any entrepreneur will always be willing to supply something that is in demand.

April 2, 2007, 10:28 a.m.I agree with NeoCon on this one. Prostitituion is a form of enslavement for women and should not be legalized. Why place a rubber stamp on something so denigrating?

April 2, 2007, 11:45 a.m.Got a lot of laughs while reading this post. My statement from last night at the beginning of the post still stands. I dare say some of those in this blog who are not advocates for this trade are clients, like all the professions and clergy who use prostitutes. Amazing. By the way some Idiot send me hate mail for my opinion on this. He is religious and offended and was quite derogatory. I was quite amused and told him to have a nice day. ;) :)

April 2, 2007, 12:08 p.m.I had a girlfriend that once told me "we are all hookers, it's just the way we present it to you."
She said it, not me. Anyway, whether or not she was joking it makes an interesting point.
