April 1, 2007, 2:41 p.m.The U.N. climate panel, giving the most authoritative study on the regional impact of climate change since 2001, also predicts more heatwaves in countries such as the United States, and damages corals including Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
"We are talking about a potentially catastrophic set of developments," Achim Steiner, the head of the U.N. Environment Programme, said of the likely impact of rising temperatures, widely blamed on greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels.
"Even a half meter (20 inch) rise in sea levels would have catastrophic effects in Bangladesh and some island states," he told Reuters.

April 1, 2007, 9:23 p.m.What a scam.....it is nothing but a report designed to foist the preconceived notions of the IPCC upon the rest of us in order to set up a worldwide carbon tax system....Most global warming proponents are receiving a good financial income from the global warming scare and have become global warming propagandists to promote their interests. These include some researchers who obtain research grants and some environmental organisations who need donations. They are making a living by promoting fear of man-made global warming. Their behaviour is similar to that of the 'snake oil salesmen' in the nineteenth century. Snake oil salesmen sold snake oil that did not require real snakes to make it. Global warming propagandists are selling fear of man-made global warming and that does not require real man-made global warming to make it. The past prophets of doom have all been wrong, so it is reasonable to expect today's doom-mongers to justify their arguments.

April 1, 2007, 9:27 p.m.The UK's Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research was established, and the science and engineering research councils were encouraged to place priority in funding climate-related research. This cost nothing because the UK's total research budget was not increased; indeed, it fell because of cuts elsewhere. But the Hadley Centre sustained its importance and is now the operating agency for the IPCC's scientific working group (Working Group 1). Most scientists' work depends on funds fully or partly provided by governments. Also, all scientists compete to obtain their share of this limited resource. Available research funds were shrinking, and global warming had become the 'scientific' issue of most interest to governments. Hence, any case for funding support tended to include reference to global warming whenever possible.

April 2, 2007, 11:16 a.m.Global warming will cause serious food disruptions in over populated countries. Africa will get hit hard, as will South America, however above the 45th parallel, in Canada, Northern Europe, Siberia, Northern China and Siberia, food grains will be produced in abundance. The rich countries will make massive efforts to keep the poor from starving and will actually cause an even great death toll by feeding a population boom.

April 2, 2007, 11:29 a.m.The ozone hole over Antarctica was letting in so much ultra violet radiation that rabbits were going blind in Argentina from the UV glare (for some reason the rabbits wouldn't wear sunglasses.)
Christians, corporates, libertarians all cried "it isn't our fault!"
Humans stopped using so much perflourocarbonss and BEHOLD- the ozone hole stopped expanding, maybe even filling back in.
WE CAUSED IT, WE FIXED IT.
What is wrong with all the freaks who won't take responsibility for what we do to our world, and why are they always neo-cons, eh?

April 2, 2007, 11:35 a.m.The idea that human beings are causing global warming merely by passing gas, is in a word.........delusional

April 2, 2007, 12:15 p.m.the title of this article is "Warming Could Bring Hunger"
I can't argue. When I got to work at 7:30 this morning it was 36 degrees outside. Now, at 12:15pm it's 48 and guess what? I'm hungry!
I'd say that's pretty conclusive evidence that warming brings hunger.

April 2, 2007, 12:30 p.m.Last night a documentary segment done on this story, talking about the chin strap penguins in Antartica, has declined by 60%in the last 30 years, because they eat krill, and since the temperature has risen, the water warmed up, those krill are hard to find in warmer water. You know we are all connected, the food chain, and tho you may not care about some species on Earth, you may not think mans pollution has any impact on the Earth, or you may think it's Gods will. whatever excuse you want to give or think so you needn't take any responsibility for what's is so obviously happening. That is so selfish. I mean really?? do some of you think that all our garbage/pollution just disappears? since you don't see it, it's not there????

April 2, 2007, 12:36 p.m.What a joke from within the "scientific community." This has a "smell" of Chicken Little and Al Gore. I imagine one day the world rotate in it's axis, the ice fields will melt and a new Ice Age will come to certain parts of the world. What then; another Global cooling? I suspect with any report like this, there is an accompanying funding request for "more research." Obviously, this has a strong political motive in publishing these views before any data support it.

April 2, 2007, 1:40 p.m.Some ultra, ultra-conservative billionaires commented on FuxNews that "global warming is just another name for socialism."
Does that mean "actively blocking the solutions to global warming is just another name fascism"?
We tried fascism (combining church, gov't, big business; and considering human beings as commodities) for quite a while now and almost everyone agrees it ain't cutting it.

April 2, 2007, 1:41 p.m.cont.
I hate commies as much as the next guy but I was brought up on old WWII movies where nazi-types WERE THE ENEMIES OF FREEDOM.
So when folks with a pro-fascist (Zero minimum wage, secret police, attacking public education, suspending habeus corpus, drafting constitutional legislation to persecute American gays) agenda tell everyone to look the other way about some huge problem confronting us all, well, a BIG RED FLAG (pun inteneded) pops up.
Why should we listen to "scientific" advice from people who think torturing innocent American citizens without trial is the direction our world should go?

April 2, 2007, 1:49 p.m.I think it's funny that in studying biology you learn that ecosystems are generally VERY fragile. Yet some people actually think that the massive polluting of the earth's BILLIONS of humans has no effect what so ever.

April 2, 2007, 8:24 p.m.There is a problem, the problem is to be acknowledged before declaring it just ""political propaganda.
If Fox news and Ann Coulter are your only sources of scientific information STAY THE COURSE.
If not, just do something to preserve the environment, even if it is not politically motivated.
Peace to all.
