STONERS
April 2, 2007, 9:54 p.m.Dohm, a married mother, made the threats from September 2005 to April 2006. The threats were in notes found in the boys' lockers, a Thurmont Middle School bathroom and envelopes mailed to two of the victims' homes.

April 3, 2007, 12:07 a.m.Hey Stoners... what is it with these teachers? a few years ago, one woman named Letourneau, a married woman of three kids, had sex with a 12 year old boy out in Cali, now we have a middle school "Unabomber" who's a terrible poet...what gives???

April 3, 2007, 12:11 a.m.My mother used to say "Insanity is contageous: you get it from kids" Maybe there was more truth to that than she even knew.

April 3, 2007, 12:15 a.m.Once again, teachers are put in a bad light. Our profession takes so much abuse from the bad apples. If there were a way to screen out some of them before they get in the classroom, I suppose we would. Then again, consider, no profession is free from nutjobs. One look at the Oval Office is all the proof I need.

April 3, 2007, 12:16 a.m.My mother used to say: "Those who can...do!....Those who can't...teach!

April 3, 2007, 8:56 a.m.With all of these things happening in the schools in recent memory,
it makes a movie like the "Blackboard Jungle" seem tame.

April 3, 2007, 9:27 a.m.Well, at least there's no chance she'll ever teach in that school again.
Or any other one for that matter.

April 3, 2007, 9:51 a.m.What's the deal with teachers of late? It seems every other week you hear of one having sex with their students, they cherry pick what they teach, mostly seeing how they can slant our countries history to only show the negative.
Now they want to quit teaching about the Holocaust so they won't 'offend' those that don't believe it happened. The entire school system really needs a major overhaul.

April 3, 2007, 10:06 a.m.STONERS:
Good submission as usual.
To everyone else who has submitted a comment to this story, I think there have been just as many female "predators or pedaphiles" as males. It's just easier to talk about it with the advent of the internet and text messaging.
Two things, my high scbool psychology teacher fell in love and married one of her students. They waited to anything until after he graduated high school.
Second, you go after any child of mine (I only have one) in an inappropriate or illegal way you will be going down. You will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law period.

April 3, 2007, 10:08 a.m.I think the 'quit teaching about the holcaust was in UK to risk offending muslims.
But anyways, I think when a teacher does something so horrible, it betrays the trust of so many, because after all, they are entrusted with our precious children. It's a very important job teaching, and I imagine very difficult since not only do you have to be educated in your feild, but also do social work, be extremely tolerant in many aspects of life, be careful of everything you say and do.
Wow! I hope she gets everything she deserves, for not only the families involved were affected, but that entire community and the other teachers...wow!

April 3, 2007, 10:42 a.m.Thanks one and all. No offense taken. The trouble is, when I wrote that I should have known I was singing to the choir. You all are the intelligent people on Netscape.

April 3, 2007, 11:15 a.m.I will be in my third year as a teacher in September. My class sizes are growing and I am working all summer to keep up with the demands of the district. On top of teaching German, I also teach and tutor math. Odd combination maybe, but it is an amazing adventure in the classroom.

April 3, 2007, 11:11 a.m.Education is a joke, and this "teacher" is the punch line. Too many like this out there. Teaching is no dream, but she provided her own nightmare. A mother yet. Glad she's not mine.

April 3, 2007, 12:02 p.m.What is odd is you see another story today of students caught planning to kill a teacher. It seems both side are spending way to much time planning crime and not learning.

April 3, 2007, 12:18 p.m.Legitimate teaching is the cornerstone of a civil society and our Democracy. Correct?
It seems like teachers are generally good because they sure ain't doing it for the money.
We get an occasional crazy one...it gets fixed quick!
If we get a lonely one (a lot of disconnected, disenfranchised, or just plain lonely folks around...) ...welll...it's tough to figure...
Some lines shouldn't be crossed...some lines CAN'T BE CROSSED.
The crazy lady in the story crossed the second kind. Jail?
I hate to see any smearing of teachers because in my state education has been under heavy and damaging attack by multiple branches of the ultra-ultra-conservatives and the Fundamentalist Christian Right.
But, looking back, I had a couple of bad teachers, and MANY, MANY good ones.

April 3, 2007, 12:37 p.m.This crazy lady did what teachers BS about doing in the faculty room. She's one bad apple that will spoil the bunch. This sotry is going to roil up a whole new crop of "Teachers Suck" stories.
If you've ever seen the movie 187... Samuel L. Jackson's character goes way over the line... sick dreams...nightmares form the depths of an underappreciated, underpayed, mistreated, and disrespected teacher's mind. Cool flick.

TryingToBeSane
April 3, 2007, 1:44 p.m.I am in favor of on line education. Let's decrease the school hours, for tests, lab, activities, and make lecture and papers on line. There is too much face time now that discipline is out the window, at home and at school.

April 3, 2007, 4:49 p.m.The quote about 'those who can't, teach' should be seen in context.
I was told that it referred to small societies where each person has/had a role. The young and fit did the hard work and the elders, who were not as strong, passed on their knowledge and wisdom by teaching to the young - so those who can, do, and those who can't, teach.

April 3, 2007, 5:25 p.m.I don't know about this. if all she wrote was the tick tock stuff, the accusation seems pretty lame to me.
the quote seems more like a playful riddle than a bomb threat to me. are we sure everyone isn't over reacting?

April 3, 2007, 5:42 p.m.The woman is a nut job. She would probably have done something equally egregious no matter the career path she followed.

April 3, 2007, 8:06 p.m.How do you send your children to school when you need to worry about the teacher? Public schools have over one hundred teachers and helpers inside the schools with your children. There is probably the same amount with bus drivers including helpers on the bus that transport your children. Parants need to find away to be more involved with all of the faculty and not just limited to one teacher or princaple. No wonder it takes so long for children to speak up about situations like this. They are out numbered!
