BANNED for Talking About Sex? »
Posted by: dan-and-jennifer 2 years, 9 months agoAs Easter approaches, I'm left wondering what's become of our nation and of Christianity... What are we coming to when we show blood and guts sprayed all over the TV, even on the Family Channel and Cartoon Network, but it's wrong to even talk about sex. When did sex become evil and wrong? When did war and violence become the norm?

April 4, 2007, 5:59 p.m.Don't blink or it could happen. Don't forget that it was the Puritans that burned witches too! F@#ckers.

April 4, 2007, 5:58 p.m.Our society is driven by sexual messages and violent messages, but nobody wants to talk about it.
Sex between consentual adults is a beautiful and wonderful thing. If we were more honest about it, we would find that this basic part of our humanity is just as amazing as everything else (art, poetry, music) that makes us human.
It is inconcievable to me that our society demands that we worship sex, yet keep it in a dark room where no-one can see the beauty and glory that is a sexual relationship. It's like the Victorian Age all over again, but with computers.

April 4, 2007, 8:50 p.m.The perception of Prostitution is more ridiculous and hypocritical than all else. The oldest profession yet the one most demonized, Why? The government could control the houses with all health issues addressed, tax revenues for the government, contented customers who now hide and finally prostitution off the streets, illegal with harsh jail sentences when not govt. controlled.
I find it perplexing that politicians, bankers, lawyers, business people and all other men, and women use the profession yet its illegal in the eyes of the religious and hypocrites.
It's all lunacy.

April 5, 2007, 8:34 a.m.omg, is this really happening? i mean, the naked body is the most natural thing on the face of this earth. our bodies are a work of art by God and if these people dont see this...im sorry for them.
talking about sex is a very hush hush thing in the USA..but why do we still see it on TV like the shows "Nip/Tuck" and "Dirt"...unbelievable. have you guys seen these shows?? they are really extreme!
Although, i can see these peoples views of NOT talking about sex...maybe we can call it something else...LOL!

April 5, 2007, 9:21 a.m.It is truly sad when shows like Nip Tuck and porn sites have the highest rating and plenty of advertising revenue (at least the TV shows I think the porn sites stand on their own) and a helpful site like this gets blacklisted for it's content.

April 5, 2007, 9:42 a.m.Actually in the old days, it was ok for painters to draw topless women. Showing woman's breasts was to represent "Motherhood". Nowadays, we are interpreting the wrong idea which it says a lot about us.

April 5, 2007, 10:11 a.m.Whenever this topic gets brought up in a discussion, I always say: "Well, I would much rather live in a society where everyone is comfortable with sex than one where everyone is comfortable with decapitating, stabbing, and shooting each other." I don't see why nudity and sex became such a major taboo.

April 5, 2007, 10:21 a.m.I dont understand why people get wierd about sex. I mean they teach it in schools like a bad thing. But I mean it's how we move the cycle of life, how is it bad? A couple years back, I remember back in highschool when a group of people came to talk about sex. All of the men and woman were saying that sex is bad and can ruin your life... I mean come on!!!

April 5, 2007, 10:23 a.m.Talk about not getting our prioroties straight. Instead of focusing on real problems (Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabiam etc) we get in an uproar over a pasty covered nipple. Or some guitar that is supposed to represent some kind of erect phallus. The main argument that we can't show that on TV is that our kids can't see things like that. What a BS argument. All you need to do is look at the other countries where sex is much more open. Their children come out as well if not better than ours.

April 5, 2007, 10:52 a.m.The article asks several very legitimate questions. Why is glorification of violence and murder considered perfectly alright? Why is commercial manipulation of sexual images and feelings also considered perfectly alright--as long as it is only used to sell products for a profit--while open discussions of sexuality are banned from public discourse?
Dan and Jennifer make a good point. We should be talking about sex. It's an important part of our lives, whether we like it or not. Banning the discussion merely creates problems.

April 5, 2007, 11:09 a.m.It is ridiculous how uptight and puritanical we are about discussing sex an open way, by keeping it taboo, it puts it into a no touch zone, and we all know most people are going to push that button even though it says "do not touch". Now lets keep it open, and let people be guilt free and healthy minded :)

April 5, 2007, 11:53 a.m.Well, obviously someone doesn't agree with your open discussion of sexual relationships. So maybe it's time to re-evaluate your approach. I personally haven't found much of what you talk about to be based on reality. I will admit that I probably haven't read all that you have posted, but what I have I have found to be unrealistic. Just a suggestion but why don't you preach just a little abstinence instead of multiple techniques? Why does every relationship have to have sexual tension? And finally, why does every relationship have to have meaningful discussions on each others inner feelings before you can sleep at night? According to you two my wife and I have not had a meaningful relationship for over 36 years. We just seem to make each other happy anyway.

April 5, 2007, 12:14 p.m.See here is the problem. If you start talking openly about sex on a web site or anywhere else before you know it some morally depraved individual will bring up oral sex. OOPS! Then some deveient will bring up foreplay. OOPS! Then some deranged individual will talk about masterbation. OOPS! Then some pervert will talk about lesbian sex. OOPS! Young people will read these things and start to think that sex is a normal healthy human need. My Lord they might grow up thinking they are normal humans and not some sick sinner. Then what kind of world would this be if we had more well adjusted people living in it?

April 5, 2007, 1:19 p.m.I remember in my biology grade 12. They brought in a nurse for a whole week telling us how to put the condom on. It was sickening because in the class there were only 3 guys with 8 girls.........we don't need to know that... I don't have a penis. Oooh sorry they called "safe sex"...they started the talk in grade 6 and every year after that someone would think i know enough by grade 12 but noo. knowing how to put the condom on is going to help me in my university studies. am not against talking about sex but it doesn't have to be the on going topic for years and years and then act surprised when they say the number of pregnant teenagers is increasing dramatically. Well, thanks to all your talks they are curious to know more

April 5, 2007, 1:31 p.m.Dan and Jennifer good article and right on the money, we need to have frank talks with our children about sex and their feelings instead of them learning from friends, TV or the Movies, which is not real. Open communication is key to a healthy mind and body.

April 5, 2007, 1:36 p.m.This is the perfect article for libs.
1. It deals with feelings.
2. It deals with lib's obsession with their groins.
3. It manages to avoid any discussion of deeper relationships, not based on sex.
4. It reiterates a favorite lib theme that normal people are all repressed.

Jan. 20, 2008, 5:27 a.m.I understand that many people were raised to see sex as something shameful, to be hidden in dark places. I am very sad about that. That is why sex needs to be put out in the daylight, in clean, bright places rather than left to furtive discussions in pubs and locker rooms. I can't comprehend the reasoning that it is OK to talk about distasteful, filthy things like war and murder but the barest mention of sex makes a conversation dirty? I'd rather a child see a breast than an act of violence any day. Violence is obscenity, sex is not.
Right on, Dan and Jennifer!
