April 4, 2007, 10:54 p.m.South Africa has reported 352 cases of the virulent strain since it was discovered last year in the eastern KwaZulu-Natal province. There have been 221 deaths and concerns have been raised about the strain spreading across the region.
Scano said an epidemiological investigation was under way to determine the full extent of the disease.
"I don't think the situation in KwaZulu-Natal is unique," said Professor Ronnie Green-Thompson, special adviser to the health minister. "If we test in other provinces we may well find a similar prevalence."

April 5, 2007, 10:14 a.m.The May 2005 issue of the Journal of Physcians & Surgeons, warned of the increasing numbers of diseases that are threatening the health of medical staff, citizens and our healthcare system, causing more hospitals to close. The journal recommended that more control of people entering the USA, equal to the past lessons of the need for an Ellis Island controlled entry, where people have health checkups before being allowed to enter the population. The early part of 20th century learned so many lessons & had improved on medical do's and don'ts, what has happened to the knowledge we once learned?
NYC has several hospitals that have been treating people for drug resistant TB for several years.
As of 2006 the USA has over 7,000 new cases of leprosy (called Hansen's disease)and whooping cough is on the rise again. TB is just one of many diseases being re-introduced into the USA, that last century were irradicated.
