The America Haters Strike Again »

Posted by: populist 2 years, 7 months ago

For them, the military IS America. War is America. The president is America. The NSA is America. Every politician that they love and worship is America. And, if you don't like it, you obviously hate America. You must be some kind of terrorist, or communist; and you'd rather be living in some foreign dictatorship.

so WHO loves oAmerica, the people who love war and love the power that the president has exercised, or the people who love liberty first and foremost?

Those that defend the CONSTITUTION, without political bias, are those that love our country best. Always seek the truth. Live free or die.

well, like that note at the bottom of the article:

"Truth poses no threat to anyone save those who rely on untruth as the cornerstone of their foundations. It is time to speak the truth- irrespective of who is listening or even has the ears to hear."

they? isn't that exactly what you're doing right now, if someone doesn't agree with you, doesn't think the way you want them too, they're against you, they're an enemy, sure looks like that is what many of you on the left are saying, you just don't want to see or admit it.

Great piece populist. I know I have alienated many clients due to my beliefs. We shouldn't talk politics in the salon but we do from time to time. There is always someone around that doesn't agree and it has been said in private 'why doesn't she go live in Russia if she thinks it's so bad here?' Fortunately we are all of the same mind in the salon and these remarks are always repeated to me. I told someone the other day that my clients are appreciative even if they don't realize it cause I no longer feel the need to chew their ears off. The reply was 'Therapy could be a new marketing tool for netscape.'

Freedom comes at various costs. One of the costs is putting up with the intolerant, belligerent and foolish who think that opposition to war is traitorous. Another cost is dealing with the blindness affiliated with following politicians of either major party simply because they feed us a line.

We are not completely free in this country. In fact, in the last decade, our government has chiseled back our freedoms on so many fronts. State governments are banning gay marriage. The Federal government can wiretap our phone conversations without a warrant in the name of national security. Our library book checklist is fair game for government spies. Our military runs slipshod through other countries at the behest of a President who is callous and unaware that other nations see the futility in the war. People in the US do too.

Freedom is expensive. We need more of it.

As a Canadian who has always admired th U.S. you stated it correctly. The reasons that you love your country are the same reasons that I admire it. The people who never speak out will be the ones who will eventually lose those items which make your country great. I even fear that these same people would allow the constitution to be changed to serve their own interests.

                  Thanks for this post.

America can only keep her liberty, if the constitution & laws are respected, as our forefathers warned us in the Declaration of Independence we as a nation & citizens have a responsibility to guard our rights to life, liberty and the persuit of happiness. This is what separates us from other countries, our freedoms & our Democracy kept by rule of laws.

"Love it or leave it." People have been saying that for years.

And I agreed with that list:

                    --I love liberty.

--I love the Bill of Rights.

--I love the freedom of speech and strictly limited government.

--I love personal privacy and religious freedom.

--I love habeas corpus and the jury trial.

I believe that most who say "love it or leave it" take those freedoms for granted. Probably because most of them--the majority of Americans, solidly rooted in the mainstream, usually aren't in danger of losing those protections of their liberty. Or they don't realize the danger they could be in in the near future, after those they don't agree with have lost their protections.

It's those who aren't in the majority who feel the threats and the losses of our freedoms the most, and the earliest.

I liked the article a lot. I find it ironic that right wing neo-trash are always quick to say "you're a traitor" when its THEIR PARTY, THEIR BELIEFS, THEIR HALLIBURTON/KBR/BLACKWATER, THEIR FEMA, their you-get-wh... that have betrayed this country.

Where did the Sunni's in 2004 get the money to fight an insurgency? Paul Bremer and the Coalition Authority.

Who is giving money to Al Quada groups to fight Iran? Dick Cheney and the neo-cons.

Who is enslaving foreigners in Iraq? Neo-con led corporations like Halliburton.

And they call people who speak out against it the 'traitors'. Under that logic, they would give a medal to Benedict Arnold and sell Patrick Henry up the river.

Paranoia makes a nation do strange things. Our current administration is secretive and paranoid. They've clandestinely stolen many of our freedoms (see David's post above). And, they've gotten our radical, flag-waving, simplistic element to buy into this irrational fear of the Middle East. When you're paranoid, and you're always looking over your shoulder, then the "you're either with us or against us" mentality takes over. What will it take for us to heal and to trust our government again? Why have our current leaders continued our foray into Iraq even after the majority of the populace has awakened to the fact that we've been misled?

exactly. we have to DO something. I think, for many, the first step is just getting informed. For years we've been complacent....

It's taken these power mongers decades to nearly ruin what America is supposed to be. Fixing this mess is not going to be fast or easy, but we'll eventually succeed.

I could be wrong here but politics in your country and mine is no longer open to ordinary people, the people who get in run large budget campains, and with large donations large promises are made, to be paid for by the rest of us later. In our country the corruption is nearly similar between the two largest parties.

These people are the same people who have fallen for the group- think rhetoric and arguments from outrage that are popular with demagogues. They don't question anything, and wouldn't know a smokescreen if they were choking on one. The submission from Arturo from Florida I found particularly bemusing. He refutes Mr. Boldin's questioning of the government's policies, yet goes on to say the government doesn't get it and doesn't know. In a way he is agreeing with the person he is refuting! I love this country to, but when I feel something is not right, I will say so.I will express concern. The very premise of calling someone who questions things unpatriotic is in itself unpatriotic. It begs the question.

My question to all who are reading the posts and the article is quite a challenge. Now what? By that I mean, you have all the information you need to confront the idiocy of our government. The pork barrel spending in Congress. The foolishness of the President who will stifle opposition any way he can. The loss of the Writ of Habeas Corpus and his ability to identify people as enemy combatants leaves me speechless. How do we push Congress into rolling back the Patriot Act? How do we urge Congress into repealing some of the draconian laws that Bush and Company passed? How do we fix a corrupted Congress? To whom do we turn for help?

Having said all that, perhaps, as I have said before here on Netscape, I should run for Congress. I would be content as a Representative. Could I garner any votes? Anyone care to comment?
