April 7, 2007, 4:50 p.m.We all know this is a US govt plot. By raising these islands the oceans will, of course, have to rise, estimates are by .000023002308 cm across the world. DAMN you BUSH!

April 8, 2007, 1:22 a.m.With the upheaval of new land in the South Pacific tremendous events began.... Another race--a land race of beings shaped like octopi and probably corresponding to the fabulous pre-human spawn of Cthulhu--soon began filtering down from cosmic infinity and precipitated a monstrous war which for a time drove the Old Ones wholly back to the sea.... Later peace was made, and the new lands were given to the Cthulhu spawn whilst the Old Ones held the sea and the older lands.... [T]he antarctic remained the centre of the Old Ones' civilisation, and all the discoverable cities built there by the Cthulhu spawn were blotted out. Then suddenly the lands of the Pacific sank again, taking with them the frightful stone city of R'lyeh and all the cosmic octopi, so that the Old Ones were once again supreme on the planet....

April 8, 2007, 1:57 a.m.I would predict the next quake to cause the island to break off and fall over on it's side into the ocean.

April 8, 2007, 2:41 a.m.What a horrible thing to have happened to these very poor people on this island. And everyone else affected by natural disasters like this one, or the more familiar man-made ones. The disruption of the means of basic survival is not a joke. It could happen to you too.

April 8, 2007, 6:28 a.m.I knew Bush did this!! What a JERK!!!
Just like 9/11 he planned the whole thing.
Used the left over explosives from blowing up the twin towers so there would be no evidence!!!!
Thankfully the people knew enough to go inland when the quake struck so the loss of life was minimal!!!

April 8, 2007, 11:31 a.m.Whoever would blame this catastrophe on George Bush is a total buffoon. The earth and all of the universe were set into motion by a powerful and Almighty God who will not be mocked by man.
This earthly creation is constantly changing, which is in itself the definition of being alive. We do not know what the total plan is but it would be my hope that you would come to a true sense of your mortality and quit attempting to blame such obvious science on our president. He is not infallible, but he is not God either.
Take this opportunity to reflect on your misgivings and come to an awareness of the Almighty God who has not only created you, but is powerful enough to move mountains, raise islands and part the waters of the Red Sea.
Let us pray for those who are injured or have taken great losses in such a catastrophe.
Please let us all quit taking such sorrows and turning them into some sort of American political forum. That is the thought of an angry and unreasonable mind.

April 8, 2007, 12:58 p.m.When a natural disaster is reported and the first thing you can think to do is defend your president, you've got a problem.

April 8, 2007, 2:34 p.m.people deal with tragedy differently. some people deal with tears, others with denial, others with humor, I amno apologist for bush, I was just dealing with a tragedy in a situation where no words would help.

April 9, 2007, 12:53 a.m.I wonder why I was attacked for stating that it was ridiculous to blame Bush for a natural disaster and no one attacked the first post for saying it was Bush! Are you equating Bush with God? Or maybe you just do not believe in God!
If you do not believe that there is a God then maybe you can believe that the earth is constantly reshaping itself. Such as the recent earthquake/tsunami in the Indian Ocean which actually shortened our day by adding magma to the earth's core! Unfortunately and tragically human and animal lives are the victims of any natural disaster.
We have the potential for disaster here. I wonder if other countries would race to aid us as we do them.

April 9, 2007, 8:23 p.m.The people blaming the tragedy on bush were joking sarcastically Jim Bob. Thats about as far as i got into reading your comment before I realized that I, and you as well, have no idea what the hell you're talking about. I wonder why the U.S. helps everyone else... maybe because we have all the money??? Your dad should have never gotten with your aunt, seriously.
As for truthiness: no one joked about 9/11 did they? People that didn't even know anyone in the towers cried, but why? Why weren't they laughing about how the kids orpahaned in the attacks won't starve, but instead can become drug dealers?
