The bishops have called for "a shared commitment for the common good." Yet that is exactly what Mugabe lacks. He has a commitment to what he perceives as his own "good," and he is willing to reward those who make it possible for him to exercise ruthless control, but he has brought the once-rich nation to a point of crisis, and he is only willing to point his fingers at "enemies" whom he blames for everything.

Zimbabwe's Catholics do not have the power to effect a change there now. But this is a beginning. Perhaps other elements, including the traditional leadership, will now come forward and join the insistence on change.

Life in Zimbabwe will get far, far worse before it gets better. Mugabe is merely the thief of the decade. He will be replaced by another megalomaniac with an AK-47 and the suffering will get worse. Just turn your back as it is far easier than looking at something you cannot change. This is how Africa works, but now with Western weapon technology, the historical tribal balance is virtually destroyed.

The sooner that Robert Mugabe is dispatched to the dustbin of African history the better the chances are for this sad country to begin the long march out of the pitiful mess his long misrule has created.

As recently as 1995 the country was self sufficient in food, and had a potentially decent future.

The Leftists who supported the destruction of Rhodesia will simply not stand for this. I believe that at this very moment tens of thousands of 1970's liberals are closing out their 401K plans, stopping by the office to quit their sales jobs and heading for Zimbabwe, the one they helped create, to straighten things out. They've quietly waited 28 years for Robert to make a fantastic success of this African run disaster. That which was obvious to some in 1980 has now become clear to even the Silly folks. There's a great day ahead for Zimbabwe.

              Remember Zimbabwe

              (a rondeau, written 11-10-2002)

              .....

Remember Zimbabwe in your prayers tonight

Remember the children who will die

Remember before you lay down your head

to say a prayer for the morning's dead

when Lord Hunger claims the African night.

              .

As the Eagle rises (oh, what a sight!)

to make mockery of a desperate plight,

a faint voice was heart to have said...

              ..."Remember Zimbabwe"

              .

As we prepare to express our might

and do what it is we believe is right,

let us remember that child in her bed

for the oil in her veins runs all too red

and there is desperation in her eyes

              ...Remember Zimbabwe

Dreaming I Saw Death At Cafe Zimbabwe

                (an open rondeau, 11-24-2002)

                ...

I saw Death in Africa Last Night weilding a bloody schythe

Reaping through rows of children once concieved with hopeful seed

In a harvest too horrid to be seen in my dreams

For a garden of stones to mark the bones of victims sprang forth

From every drop of human blood to spill upon the earth.

                .

Bio-chemical warfare waged in the stomach of a waif

Her dark eyes tragic, beautiful in a drawn mask of despair

Into those eyes, as deep, as rich as pools of Iraqi tea,

                ...I saw Death

                .

Despair poured out upon the ground the last decanter of Hope

While Misery sipped her tea sweetened with a touch of Fear

Not far away, Tragedy and Lord Hunger sat to chat

Much was discussed, the human race, a little of this and that

And sitting around waiting as if with amusement on his mind

                ...I saw Death

I gave your comments a negative rating ("Yes, the darling of the Libs was just another African tin horn dictator","a Democrat") because, well, they were just as stupid and idiotic as those idiots cracking jokes about the tragedy. Yup, absolutely stupid. Why? Um, chuckleknuts, just tell me how you justify blaming 'liberals' or 'Democrats' for Mugabe...

Yup, absolutely stupid and polorized wherein no justification nor support of those two comments could possibly exist outside of a stupid and snide desire to paint broadly those who differ with you on political issues here in the U.S. with the evil of a dictator from a former British protectorate whom has ruled this tragic nation through both Republican and Democratic U.S. Presidents as well as both Republican and Democratic control of the U.S. Congress.

I would as you to justify those comments if you've the courage and fairness to. Otherwise, prove your courage by posting a retraction.

It's a disgrace to the human species when one man can bring

so much misery to a country.
