April 9, 2007, 10:10 a.m."Demonstrators were flanked by two cordons of police as they called for U.S. forces to leave, shouting "Get out, get out occupier!"
That is FREEDOM.
If Saddam was dictator on the power, he would "gas" them to DEATH.

April 9, 2007, 10:13 a.m.How many dead bodies will we see as a result of this little celebration by Believers of The Religion of Peace?

April 9, 2007, 10:54 a.m.Hey Bush, wake up! They don't want us there either. Bring our troops home. They see us as occupiers not liberators. Your costly war has done nothing to further democracy in the Middle East. Your policies are only painting bulls eyes on our troops and furthering the spread of terrorism.

April 9, 2007, 10:57 a.m."This is the right to assemble, the right to free speech they didn't have that under the former regime," Boylan said. "This is progress, there's no two ways about it."
Im sorry, i just loved that statement so much i had to repeat it.
Its like telling a child they have to get a shot. They might not understand it, but when they arent sick anymore, they will thank you.

April 9, 2007, 10:59 a.m."...Muqtada al-Sadr, the powerful Shiite cleric who a day earlier issued a statement ordering his militiamen to redouble their battle to oust American forces, and argued that Iraq's army and police should join him in defeating "your archenemy."..."
Another dope. America is your enemy? Really? Without the intervention of the US there would be no power vaccum for you to exploit. Biting the hand that feeds is a common thing in history though.

April 9, 2007, 11:08 a.m.These are the folks you conservatives and Bush have emboldened with American Blood and money. The insanity is that you want to continue this.
Bush polices have now led to the eventual elimination of the Sunni sect. We pay and bleed and Iran is the winner. Mr. Bush you should impeach yourself!!
And our retired generals on T.V. who talk nonsense "for more time and we will have a chance of winning this war".
You already lost "Dolt", a civil war with a population that despises us is not good news or an omen for success. In Vietnam I had to put with inane military leaders, I no longer have to listen to their tripe. If you all think this Petraus is a Attila the Hun who will come to the rescue in this scenario are dillusional. The surge will fail and Senator Lieberman who representates Israel should go serve in the final days of Iraq, McCain too and most Republicans elitist who represent money. Its all a joke on America and values we no longer have.

April 9, 2007, 11:21 a.m.Al Sadr urging his followers to attack us is a major development -- and a very negative one too. When the surge started I was afraid this would happen. I think this will more than double the number of Iraqis actively fighting against U.S. troops. It is time to hold a national plebiscite in Iraq as to whether they wish the U.S. to withdraw. There are other things we can do to help Iraq gain stability without keep more than 100,000 troops there. Most of the people fighting the U.S. believe that we are planning on occupying their country indefinitely.

April 9, 2007, 11:30 a.m.Hey BUSH & CHEYNE Did you see the footage "BRING YOUR TROOPS HOME" ONLY IN AMERICA"

April 9, 2007, 11:37 a.m.You know, a careful reading of this story reveals that al Sadr is actually helping us. Surprise indeed. Notice he is calling for all Iraqis to unify against us. If, in fact, all Iraqis WERE to unify -- WE COULD GET OUT. And the sectarian violence would disappear. At least until AFTER we left. And who knows, maybe once they start by cooperating on getting US out, they will find that it's not so bad after all. And we would actually end up with a free, democratic, peaceful Iraq. And we would have to include al Sadr in the thank you speech. Who'd of thunk it?

April 9, 2007, 11:51 a.m.joeblowe----"Who'd of thunk it?"
Nobody but you, Joe. When we're gone, the civil war will rage. Don't even think otherwise.

April 9, 2007, 12:06 p.m.you are a short sighted fool. for once think of a generation after yours. think of the benifits that could come from a free and peaceful middle east. you complain about fuel prices? do you know how much easier trade will be for you childrens generation or the one after that?

April 9, 2007, 12:30 p.m.I dunno if they are allies but they share an enemy in the US. I think once we leave Iran will pull some sort of shennanigans against Iraq...not a full fledged war. Iran is slick Im sure they know what they WANT to do once we leave.

April 9, 2007, 12:04 p.m.hey, Iraq is a democracy now.

April 9, 2007, 12:52 p.m.Enriq,be careful what you say.GWB may have reason to waste more billions of SS money over there.

April 9, 2007, 12:32 p.m.Those demonstrations would have been a couple of great places to battle test the MOAB...
-

hoppy
April 9, 2007, 12:49 p.m.Instead of "get out of here occupier" it should have been shouted "what are you doing here in the first place?" And GWB answer to that,,"Wait till I spend more money ,lose more inocent lives, lose a few thousand arms and legs first, and ask congress for more money and troops."

April 9, 2007, 4:17 p.m.(( yet leave it to the netscape-NUTS to turn this into a hate AMERICA thread))
how do you define america? If america is the same thing as this current administration and its disaterous policies, then you have a point.
Is america the land we live on, the people we live with, the people who rule us, or the ideas and ideals of the constitution?
I don't hate america. Every day I remember how lucky I was to be born here.
It says in the bible 'God reproves him whom He loves'
Wanting this country to behave according to the high ideals of its founders, and wanting it to avoid decisions that weaken it physically and morally, is not a sign of hate, but love.
Plus it's always fun to bitch, right or wrong. relieves tension.

April 9, 2007, 2:44 p.m.I guess the NeoCons just like pain and suffering. When gas gets up to 5 dollars a gallon they will be happy. I will be happy when this Bush Regime in Washington is flushed down the toliet. I admit it though, we Americans are dumb as hell. I had to work for some Iranians for awhile before I realized it was true. They laugh and mock us for our stupidity, yet we are still supporting them, now that is dumb.

April 9, 2007, 2:26 p.m.A peaceful demonstration in Iraq! I'm impressed. The mexicans in L.A. a few days ago couldn't do that.
Mission accomplished! Let's go home.

April 9, 2007, 3:09 p.m.It would be nice if someone, anyone, the media, the Iraqis mentioned they have new freedoms thanks to the invasion and subsequent liberation.
It would be nice if they noticed they have the freedom to protest, at the risk of being killed in a suicide bombing.
No one ever said freedom was free, there is always a cost to be paid.
Al Sadr is free to reach for power and control of the country, something he never could do under Saddam. Therefore if it is the will of the Iraqi people to have a theocracy, and they no longer wish us to occupy their country we should respect their wishes and respectfully withdraw.
You know, Thompson (Tommy) says we should ask the Iraqis if they want us to stay or go. He may be on to something there,
democracy in action and all of that.

SlapALib
April 9, 2007, 3:23 p.m.Easy to talk tough after Saddam has finally been knocked off.
Let's install a new Sunni dictator and see where all this "occupier" talk goes.
I'd just say, "Hey, you seem to not like us doing your dirty work. Let's see you do it better. Oh, and better hold your breathe about now.
-

Raiderwall
April 9, 2007, 4:02 p.m.You can't install anything in Iraq. That's the point. the genie is out of the bottle.
But hey, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Saddam is gone. WMDs-none.
Iraq has a constitution and a democratically elected government. The question should be put to the Iraqi people,
Are you better off now than you were four years ago?
