Dad burn it all, those gun totin' 'publican's! Well there goes the neighborhood. Sounds like we are no longer in the no spin zone. More spin from a lady my heart goes out to because of her illness. I wish her good health in spite of her misguided thinking? Elizabeth dear, Just because a person owns a gun doesn't make them a criminal. Of all the wrong things in this world this is what she choses to make as an issue?? How about illegal immigration where anyone terrorist or not can waltz across our borders and kill you? Or call me stupid but how about more jobs, lower taxes, better more affordable health care, assistance for the poor to help them get on their feet so they do not have to be disgraced by being on welfare? Or child preditors? Nah, I can see why a gun totin' 'publican is news worthy.

Uhhhh, I guess if all of this is reported accurately, I'd have to say that Mrs Edwards sounds a might snooty. That won't go over well in CA. She might want to tone it down a little.

What scares me is liberal politicians in a 28,000 square foot house that are going to pass laws to make ME live more frugally....

No worries nwarnae, just wave a gun at the libs and they won't have the guts to enforce their laws. The founding fathers knew what they were doing when they gave us the right to bear arms! Gotta keep them libs in check gahaha.

Well, sounds like there is probably a story behind the story and plenty of selective editing going on!

Frankly, I would also be nervous of a fellow who waved a gun at some inspectors who didn't have paperwork - if they weren't resisting leaving the property, he is hardly under threat. He sounds a bit of a type to shoot first and hope saying sorry will get him off the hook later.

If he'd really thought they were up to no good, he should have called the cops first, notified his neighbors that maybe the area was being cased for burglary second, and only if the intruders/inspectors got ambitious and physical would he have a legal right to show his weapon as a third alternative.

I'd sure be a little less apt to befriend a neighbor who says hello gun first!

The Edwards have earned their home - both work, and both paid for their educations themselves if I remember rightly. The American Dream right? What's different is that they remember those who are still working on it.

Wepucks seem crazy to me too. It is almost like no one will admit that they are one anymore.

This man probablly can't pay his bills because the wepucks have been in power for 6 years.

This is suppose to be a civilized society. I see no reason for someone to be a guntoater around kids and on their property. People like that shoot small animals without regard too.

The edwards should be concerned. Suppose the neighbor does a Dick Cheyney on them?

I wonder how she will feel about that "rabid, rabid republican" when he uses that gun of his to chase some would be thieves away from her 28,000 square foot crime magnet.

This story reminds of a few characters on both sides of the fence.. the neighbor could go "Ruby Ridge" and pull a gun only to get the sherrifs out there to kick his door in & confiscate his guns. The Edwards no doubt have private security and don't need their neighbor to defend their property--which would be kinda hard anyways considering these are huge acreages and the neighbor probably can't even see the other house from where he is through the woods.

I'm a gun collector , which catches people off guard as I am also a centrist democrat and I do notice that people "get funny" if they find out about my hobby. I also have a concealed weapons permit--you keep the gun on the "QT"--holstered but ready when you check out some goings on around your place. Brandishing a gun unnecessarily is a crime in most areas and could be construed as a threat.

Her neighborhood is probably safer if her neighbor has guns. Bad guys tend to stay away from areas where they may get shot.

Wouldn't you think you would check out the neighborhood carefully BEFORE you built a 28,000-square-foot estate at a cost of $5.3 million?

I just reread the story and I overlooked this the first time

Edwards views Johnson as a "rabid, rabid Republican" who refuses to clean up his "slummy" property just to spite her family, whose lavish 28,000-square-foot estate is nearby on 102 wooded acres

She comes off like a real snob!
