April 9, 2007, 3 p.m.The 10 rational commandments, in two parts:
1. The ten commandments story is a fairytale invented my a jewish story teller, or maybe greek.
2. They are all common sense, rules to keep a tribe of people from killing each other.
3. 50,000 years before jews invented the crist story to persuade the commoners that the roman king or the egyptian king was not a god, that all are just human, the common sence of the 10 commandments were in practice in every tribe of humans on the planet, most of them non-judeo/christian/western.
4. There is absolutely no evidence for the existance of any God, past present or future, in the form of a repeatable experiment based on scientific method, or observed phenomenon.
5. There is absolutely no evidence that the biblical account of the 10 commandments is anything but an attempt to religous"ise" common sense.

April 9, 2007, 3:03 p.m.6. There is no evidence for angels, devils, demons, fairys, tooth or otherwise.
7. Religion and the belief in god, or faith, is a genetic trait of humans, and used to be a survival trait for tribal communities as they slaughtered each other. Witness Iraq.
8. People who thought religion is BS were either killed or didn't have as many children as the genetic believers, hence the huge numbers of brainwashed evangelical christian, muslim, buddists, hindu, and others compared to the rational.
9. Emotion trumps reason. Faith begins when knowledge ends. Faith and ignorance are synonomous.
10. Your reason can overcome genetic tendencies.

April 9, 2007, 3:59 p.m.You can BELIEVE in space aliens, but that doesn't necessarily make it so. Only God knows right now if there are "space aliens" out there, and--if there are--it is not incompatible with the Scriptures. However, since the devil is mentioned as being cast down to earth after his rebellion against God, one could draw a possible conclusion that only earth is inhabited. Otherwise, wouldn't the Bible say that the devil had to roam the earth, Mars, Jupiter, Andromeda 7, etc., as the ultimate evil one?

April 9, 2007, 5:26 p.m.They may have not known all these things you say (though that is certainly debateable), but nonetheless the Bible contains stories (fact, fiction or a mix - you can decide) that reflect the common struggles of humanity at that time as well as today.
In addition through the model of Christ and the life he lived as portrayed in the Gospels, it provides a model that most would do well to follow (though most, from both the religious and secular world fall short). The unconditional love, forgiveness, compassion shown by Jesus and his embracing not only of the easily liked but the marginalized, the poor, the "enemy" is something that everyone can learn from, but sadly few people do.
Instead of lambasting a text and bringing out your own hatred and obvious world view, why don't you meditate on what such a text could offer you.

April 9, 2007, 5:49 p.m.referring to the article it's self: I have nothing against the 10 commandments, however, something tells me something's not exactly "right" with the teaching body of that denomination...?
[May 30, 2005]- The senior bishops of the Church of England, led by the Archbishop of Canterbury, have said that clergy can "marry" their boyfriends - and of course, the female clergy, can "marry" their girlfriends - if they promise to refrain from sexual activities with their "spouse." http://www.lifesite.net/ldn/2005/may/05053007.h...

April 9, 2007, 7:06 p.m.One of the articles caption reads succinctly: 1) Love your God 2) Love your Neighbor, how many other commandments do you need? At a guess I'd say 10, but that would just be a wild stab in the dark.... If only we could get by on these top two alone; boy what fun we could all have for Sh1t's and giggles!

April 9, 2007, 7:48 p.m.Also,you seem to be somewhat out of touch with 'the people'.Anti-creationist evolution, secular philosophy, and things like that are basically of no concern to active Bible believers because your anti-Bible theories are so outdated and lacking any modern day relevance. They have been outpaced by prophecy is what I am getting at.Who cares about your vulgar intellectualy impoverished attempts to refute the Bible? What people who are spiritually alive are interested in is when the final phases of "mark of the beast technology" lock into place(just like a jigsaw puzzle),and things related to the current time frame we live in.Knight Templar,go back to the Monty Python scrap heap or whatever.

April 9, 2007, 10:19 p.m.The Anglicans need to do some house cleaning. The half that believe in space aliens have no place in attempting to mediate between man and God. There are clubs for that...Trekky's.

April 10, 2007, 1:44 a.m.For some people the 10-commandments are a needed set of guides. For others, it looks good to have 'm in your resume.
What bothers me is that so many "Christians" seem to especially obsess on the 6th and MANNER of its observance by everyone else!

April 10, 2007, 8:21 a.m."Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's. "
Originally this was translated as 'slave' not manservant. People change it to fit with the times, as saying 'slave' would raise too many questions.
Why isnt there a commandment to free slaves? Wouldnt that be an important topic for a Just and Kind God?
