April 10, 2007, 5:12 p.m.Let's see now. It wasn't long ago that there were all of those base closings. Some of that is still in process. The way they do it it takes years or decades, even. In Alameda, CA the Naval Air Station was closed more than 10 years ago. The Navy left a mess of contamination which they promised to clean up and they were going to turn the base back to the City for a small amount money. They are haven't done the clean up needed for the community to procede with what it needs to do. The Navy has stalled so long that now they are want 100 million dollars for the place and pushing the community to come up with the payment right away or the Navy will sell it to some other group which, in order to cover the cost, is planning to wipe out that part which is planned and needed for a wildlife refuge.
Typical faithless wildly wrong goverment.
Good Luck.

April 10, 2007, 7:49 p.m.I seriously doubt that the state legislature has the authority to keep the federal government from exercising eminent domain. What they may be able to do, however, is to get the land acquisition so tied up in court proceedings that the feds will eventually just give up.
The good people of Colorado, like so many others, claim to support our military--they just don't want any of them around.
