April 10, 2007, 9:42 p.m.How odd it is that GW declares Syria a bastion of state sanctioned terror, but Germany is ok with helping Syria build itself economically. Syria is turning more frequently to Germany for assistance not only economically but also diplomatically. I wonder if GW will want to impose sanctions on the Germans!

April 11, 2007, 12:12 a.m."The German strategy emphasizes the promotion of micro-credits to entrepreneurs unable to secure loans from commercial banks, according to the German Development Ministry. Germany co-founded Syria's first "micro-finance bank" and has supported various other initiatives, the ministry said."
This has proven to work so well in even the most impoverished areas. The truly funny thing is that the load default rate is FAR lower in such loans than when lending to the most credit worthy fat cats in the world. And economic development done this way benefits all, not just the tiny few who are already wealthy and well connected.
If George W. Bush actually has a Christian bone in his body, it's time he quit funneling trillions of debt-financed dollars into the hands of the wealthiest Americans and start helping people who actually need help.

April 11, 2007, 12:18 a.m.hmm, I really don't know enough about Syria to make an educated statement, or even really to give an opinion. I am wondering why, if Germany has such a high unemployment rate, and Syria does as well....why Germany would 'help' and why Syria would ask for help? maybe my feelings are uncalled for, but this makes me feel uneasy. That would be HORRIBLE if GW imposed sanctions on Germany. Any others looking to Germany for help with anything???

April 11, 2007, 11:41 a.m.Bush & Cheney will declare Germany a country which supports state sponsored terrorism. OK cowboy how about UN sanctions on Germany?
When we elect a new President in 2008, his first order of business should be to visit Syria and Iran and establish full diplomatic relations.

April 11, 2007, 3:35 p.m.Oi nikkibabe!!! You must be really naive to think that if Bush was to do anything like that. First of all we have a couple of bases in Germany and several thousand troops stationed there. Along with some of our best planes and tanks and equipement there. You know the ones that we have bought from those Germans.
Sanctions on Germany from us would be so stupid. Gwad I really do not understand you peoples hatered that you have for this admin. Really if you would think before you type you would see that your comment was a real stretch.
Now when we see Germany asking, (and that would be the Gov cause the people would lose biz), asked the U.S. to leave then you might see sanctions. And if that was to happen. God help us all cause the Germans once again are allied with Islam. And we all know what happened when that happened.

April 11, 2007, 4:18 p.m.Nikibabe should we also give them nucleur tech. since they will be our close friends. How blind can people be, dont you read the news and see all talks with Iran have ended in nothing? No matter who was doing the talking. These countries have an agenda and you are on it but not in the way you think.

April 11, 2007, 7:46 p.m.Germany is not our ally and if you think it is you need Bugs Bunny to come to your house and give you a back rub.
Germany is a member of our squandered billions, NATO. In case you haven't read my posts heres a tidbit of information you need to absorb, Germany only agreed to fight terrorism is Afghanistan if they were not in a danger area. They are currently in the Northern part of Afghanistan where no fighting is occurring. Now is this an ally you desire and need.
Yet our leaders accept this behavior of an "Ally". I say get out of NATO who block us on all levels unless you condone squandering more billions. Germany makes our leaders look like Juvenile politicians that they are.

April 11, 2007, 8:59 p.m.I find it a bit hypocritical that some people use Germany in the same sentences as nazi Germany. The majority of nazis are gone, nazi Germany is gone. There are what's called neo nazis in almost every corner of the world, and they are not just against the Jewish people, nor all German. How would we Americans feel if everyone kept pointing the finger at Americans and saying SLAVERY, NATIVE AMERICAN SLAUGHTER, SLAVERY, and slavery lasted a hell of a lot longer then all of WW2. WW2 has been over with for 62 years, we were winners, a lot of Germans were glad of that. Oh yeah, and we sure didn't have any problems using all we could of German technology-who knows where our space program would be today if not for them at that time???
I'm leary of anyone trying to be allies with most middle eastern countries, our government tries...it's got to start somewhere tho, right? don't we want to be allies with everyone?? for peace? or is it being demanded that America can be the only ones?

April 11, 2007, 9:23 p.m.This seems like good news to me. I think trade reduces the threat of terror. Give people jobs and they'll be less likely to resort to terror. The micro loan program seems to have worked wonders in Asia too.
