I find it interesting that the news story includes a map of Africa and also an inset so that people actually know where Algeria is located. As a result, is this news in the U.S. and how did this story make the front page of netscape?

i would have thought that this attack by muslim terrorists on other muslims aiming for reconcilliation proves that all muslims are not terrorists...still some people dont want to believe in the truth, just their version of it.

They may not be all Terrorists Now... But they had a huge terror network in Algeria against the French and Algerians siding with the French. So it may prove that they have a larger Pct. of Terrorists then Earthlover projected. Ali hits Frazier but Frazier is still fighting. Frazier hits Ali but Ali is still in the ring... ah, you get it, they both are still in the ring and fighting, but not both throwing punches at the exact same time... Come on Pelosi, they need you in Algeria!... Ah just blame Bush... I'ts much easier to understand!

The terrorist are angry that the Algerian government has military bases on their holy land...duh, get with the program guys. Whenever a muslim decides to blow some ****** up it is always because of military occupation by that country and its support for Israel.

Oh wait...Algeria didn't send soldiers to Iraq did they? And they don't support Israel either? Does that mean that *gasp* Islamo-fascists kill ANYONE who isn't one?!?!?!? NO THAT CAN'T BE! Islam is a religion of peace!

More Muslims blowing up bombs in civilian areas. I wonder how long it is going to be before mobs of people start lynching any Muslim they find close at hand? And, how would you find a jury to convict them? I do find it noteworthy that this is a result (presumably) of the army canceling elections that the opposition was "poised to win." You have to expect SOME sort of violent reaction to behavior like that. If that happened HERE, I expect I'd be trying to blow someone up too... but hopefully not a bunch of civilians.

This is a crime against humanity. Algeria has been fighting terrorist groups sponsored by Al-Qaeda and funded by Saudi Arabia's Wahabist movement. The Saudis ought to be held accountable for this atrocity and 9/11 attacks. My heart goes to the Algerian people who are struggling to embrace western views on free speech and democracy. As a former French colony, Algeria is a moderate young democracy.

I think that's where you liberal dirt bags get it wrong. When America fought it's war of liberation they didn't blow up innocent civilians, women and childern, tarred and feathered a few women here and there. SO dickweeds if they are blowing up group A in Algeria in 1950 and they are blowing up group B in Algeria in 1960 and they are blowing up group C in Algeria in 2007. THEY ARE TERRORISTS! That's where we differ with the MUSLIMS!... Freedom fighters my ass... Let's liberate ourselves so we can live in poverty, pray to Pecca 5 times a day and let the Iman's control our every move... So today I educated you on the differences of the American Revolution and the Terrorists in the middle Yeast!!! as in infection!!! Knothead15 got it right! It was there turned to get bombed!

I learned a long time ago that I didn't know what the real local day to day issues were in the IRA's struggle against Britain. I had to explain every bomb that went off like I knew why. So this is my take on these attacks.

As I remember Algeria had bombers that left the bomb in place and then lived to planted another bomb later on in the week. Suicide bombers are al Qaeda's mark, they make al Qaeda even more to be feared everywhere. And being feared is important in gaining real respect in Arab nations.

More than just against the US al Qaeda has a larger objective, a battle against all sectarian Arab governments. Algeria's Muslims are 96% Sunni the question this not in who's area were the explosions in, they clearly are against the government. al Qaeda is working franchise terrorism were they give economic support and instruction to smaller local groups that will sign on to the saying "your enemy is also my enemy".

Where is the intelligence Department within the U.S. I am against an Iraq style invasion to promote Democracy but in the same breath I want our Government to achieve goals like the Israeli undercover entities, Massad. Al Queda would be subverted with covert activity as the Israelis accomplished after the Olympic bombings. I believe that most Americans would accept the elimination of those terrorist through covert means. Are we Americans so sanctamonious that we cannot subvert this group of terroris through our terrorism?

You do not fight a fire with gasoline you use the same tactics or worse. Now does that make us something abhorent, I don't think so. Kill every last terrorist without the necessity of sacrificing American lives in a traditional style of warfare. Allow the C.I.A. the authority to deal with radicals the way they should be dealt with. Simple yet some will say unconstitutional. Then I call you an idiot and expect more terrorism.

I'm sorry but after reading some of the comments above I'm pushed to write the following:

Terrorism didn't start on the 11 September 2001, Europe and North Africa were having to deal with innocent people being killed on a regular basis.

What happened in New York was a tragedy no question no doubt. I'm asking for perspective, where's the world wide recgonition for the following dates 15 August, 11 March for example.

The horror Algeria has been through is truly terrifying.

it is very sad that in a crisis like the one the Algerian are going through blinding ideologies allow us to be inhumane. Those who died are innocent civilains like the one in the federal building in Oklahoma ,the world trade center, baghdad. who cares what they believe in I am a christian and the fanatics who spoke for me as a christian are evil jesus has never hatred in his heart . please who do you really believe in? those victims are innocent people . iwas blessed by being exposed to wide world and the Algerian have gone and are still going through hell fighting the terrorist.

It is true that not all Muslims are terrorists but it's also true that (almost) all terrorists are Muslims.

It is true that no WMD were found in Iraq (yet) but it does not necessarily mean that there were no WMD in Iraq. Similarly, Osama bin Laden was not found (yet). It does not mean that Osama bin Laden does not exist.
