April 11, 2007, 12:41 p.m.The report, giving regional details of a global study by the U.N. climate panel issued on April 6 in Brussels, also said Arctic fish stocks and forests could be affected by a rate of warming in the Arctic almost twice the global average.
"Dramatic changes to the lives and livelihoods of Arctic-living communities are being forecast unless urgent action is taken to reduce greenhouse gases," the U.N. Environment Programme said in a statement.
Rising temperatures were also a threat to creatures such as polar bears and seals which live on the ice.

April 11, 2007, 12:51 p.m.Remember the last lines from "The Blob?" (1958 version.)
Lieutenant Dave: At least we've got it stopped.
Steve Andrews: Yeah, as long as the Arctic stays cold.

April 11, 2007, 3:28 p.m.Wow, 2 hours and no trolls here yet to tell us the ice caps aren't melting. Oh well, there's still time...
STILL TIME to brush aside the corporate owner/investors, the Fundamentalist Christians, and the Libertarians who so actively block not only the solutions but actual studies of the situation! (billionaire corporate owners chuckle on FoxNews how they want to create more global warming because disasters are good for business, Fundamentalist Christians want global warming because they think it "fulfills prophecy" (end of the world myth) of their death-centered religion, and selfishness-based Libertarians who don't believe in helping, contributing, or taking responsibility for our society or world in any way.
The right succeeded in tricking everyone against any kind of solar, for instance, so we just had a hundred thousand new homes built in the sunny area where I live WITHOUT A SINGLE SOLAR PANEL even though we have so much sun.
Forget the detractors. Forge ahead.

April 12, 2007, 8:03 a.m.And maybe the warmer temps will do more good than bad.
And maybe all the frozen wastes are manure by now, just waiting to fertilize some Eskimo's farm. And maybe the new Eskimo/Inuit farmers can vote as a block for Dems and get a bunch of federal dollars to not plant crops.
And maybe the Global Warming alarmists can pray to their new high priest/prophet, Al Gore, for deliverance and send their tithe (carbon credits) to clear their conscience.
And then maybe the people of the world will turn to history and learn that the earth has natural cool/heat cycles:
1. 100 K years ago the glaciers covered Wisconsin. Then tenps warmed and now we have the Great Lakes.
2. 20 K years ago warm temps cooled, ice froze, sea levels dropped and Florida rose from the sea.
3. Circa 1000 AD there were vineyards in England.
Maybe, just maybe, GW is political and not really scientific. Maybe this hysteria is only to clear the way for a new tax: a worldwide carbon tax.
Just something to think about.

April 12, 2007, 5:22 p.m.We must stop this global warming. If winter time temperatures are consistently above freezing or worse, the oil companies won't be able to sell as much heating fuel. Profits will be down. Investers will be unhappy. The expected carbon taxes will be too low to support the infrastructure that will be developed and all those burrocats won't have work.
Where were all those polar bears before this last freezing cycle of several hundred years?
