A new government forecast says the monthly average for regular gas will peak at $2.87 in May. As for the entire summer season, the forecast calls for an average of $2.81 a gallon. What do you think of the outlook and the recent rise in prices?

Well here in south florida is over $ 3.00 the regular $3.15 for medium grade and super is $3.40 they say that by the end of may is going to be $4.00 and by the end of july or the first part of aug if everything continues the same it would be close to $ 6.00 i been hearing the same song in gas stations all over the city so maybe they know something we dont , I hope it does not get that high I guess we would have to use more motorcycles and scooters instead of cars

The goal has been $3.00 a gallon for several years now. Hopefully it will plateu there. Even more hoepfully, energy companies will invest in 'green' energy with their higher profits and reduce our dependence on oil and coal.

Please do not give the surplus to the executives!

There will be no green energy for 50 years or more. The Dems or Reps cannot do anything about the cost of gas as it depends on the open markets. If there is a war then the prices will go even higher. As for giving the surplus to the executives that will always happen. Just get over it. Nobody can do anything about it and all the gripping will not do any good.

This typical of the oil companies . Raise the price , then lower it alot , then raise it past it's highest price , then lower it a little , wait some time till everyone cools off , then start over again . In the end they' have raised the price .75-1.00 over a year to a year and a half . That's baring any worldwide catastrophie they can use to jack the price up a little more . And so it goes ...

You could be in Europe, paying $6.00 a gallon. They pay it, willingly! It has not curtailed driving and they have not met the Kyoto protocol! Be prepared! Energy is going to skyrocket and who will be the blame?

It won't affect me as much as most others. I'm a mile from work and a full tank lasts more than a month!

I will leave you with this one thought.

The Bush family has always lived on oil so what did you expect, reduced rates during his tenure?

Fatcats equals Bush family, need I say more.

The Base equals AL Queda in arabic. Bush has his "The Base" the fatcats and corporate elite within America. HOORAH - for the elitist in America. You poor and middle class are the peons that make the rich richer and that is the reason for Billonaires in the world. So I guess, just accept it.

And I said I would leave you with one thought, I lied.

It is well over $3.00 a gallon here in San Diego.

How come it is back up over $3? the November elections are over yet it took much longer then we thought for it to climb again...

The British hostages were released... so why else?

The oil companies are posting record profits... again!

Most of these post sound like people who just came out from under a rock. Gas is compartively cheap at 3 bucks and thats with approx 50 cents tax. In 1963 gas was equivalent to 5 bucks out of the hard working Americans pay check with 6 cents tax. If you want to complain, blame the futures speculators who are buying up the market based on low enventories. Or blame the regulators who require gas enventories to go to minumum to switch to summer gas right when usage goes up. Why arent you going nuts over the profit margins on Coke, Miller Lite and Deer Park who simply charge what the jerks will pay. You do realize you are paying $30 plus for a gal for beer. I dont like the price fluxuation either , but any real analysis of price says its propably the best value of anything you purchase.

How about just increasing the gas mileage requirements for vehicles in the US? I seem to recall a windfall profit tax did wonders for reducing the cost. Of course we could reduce the grossly oversized paychecks to the oil CEO's, but, that isn't going to happen. There is also the option of reducing/eliminating the tariff on South American ethanol - that isn't going to happen either with Grassley running things like that.

"I don't care about the adjusted for inflation crap" You have a problem Walden3. Even a cave man knows thats a measure of your standard of living and what you have to spend on non-essentials. The decline of energy and food, costs over the past 30 years has allowed for more spending on non-essentials. You need to wise up, and get a third job because I'm sure you are working two. Go out and buy a couple futures contracts on oil about next December (you missed your chance this year). Ride it up in the Spring and sell out after the Summer holidays. Sell twice as much as you purchased (called the short side) so you can make money as oil comes back down. Even UPS truck drivers do this, trust me. With that you'll be so happy when oil goes up and high fiving when it comes back down. What a Country!!!

many americans are getting their wish. we are becoming just like europeans. those emulating the european models now are getting higher energy prices. that is a big part of the formula. priced out of affordability useage will decline co2 goes down everything from home ownership food clothing transportation and more will go up.

The media and public can help by running cheapest price reports. I own a truck and a 4 cylinder car. I use the car unless I really need the truck. If we use less gas for commuting, supply increases, demand decreases, price goes down.

Ethonol will do nothing repeat nothing for lowering price for the next 20 years. Currently, It doesnt even compete until oil is over 70. If there is real investment in ethonol where it could compete, the M/E, Russians, and Mixico can open the spickot and put oil at 60 then 55 then what ever it takes to compete. Ethonol would be screwed and they wont take that risk. Eth investment will be only used as a primary fuel when investment knows oil producers cant cut price. Russia can make money at 40, Saudi at less than 30. Other than the Gov forcing Eth use, it simply cant compete. Those countries are not going to sit by and watch a competitor muscle in. Oil is plentiful and its doubtfull the public would pay $3.80 for Eth when oil is capable of driving the price down to 1.50 for the next 20 years. Ethonol is an answer only when oil supplies start to decline.

I have not herd much in the way of "wasting" We as Americans tend to be very wastful when it comes to oil. I used to drive 90 miles to and from work everyday and drive an SUV. Today I still drive the SUV but I only have a 5 mile round trip each day. Higher prices do save gas. When prices rose to the 3.00 a gallon level the usage was reduced by 4%. Than prices went under 2 bucks and usage went up by 6%. I am sure we can reduce our usage somewhere along the line and than prices would stay low and opec would be drinking their oil for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It's time to cut usage, not talk about how to make more for less $. The only answer is to cut back!! If not you will be bitching about it for the rest of your lives.

Gas today up here in canada went to 1.059 (can$) a litre which is around 3.65 a gallon in U.S. dollars. Funny thing is we actually have oil up here and we're still getting screwed.
