At Bush's invitation, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi are due at the White House on Wednesday to discuss the war, particularly a bill funding the military mission through September.

In both the House and Senate, Democrats have attached timelines for withdrawing troops to the bill containing $96 billion in military funding.

Bush says the meeting will be about his nonnegotiable stance on a timeline.

Is he under the misconception that we are winning this war? If we were to actually win it, what would we be winning? OIL?

a stable iraq puts the heat on iran to stop supporting all these proxy terrorist groups--ha... stable iraq AND iran really puts the squeeze on all the rest of the thug dictators..like pelosi's friend bashir--this makes it harder for terror networks to function ANYWHERE--like here ..or france..or australia--and i just heard on the news that 5 of the 21 alqaeda cells in iraq have split from alqaeda and want to negotiate--they see they cant win and dont want to be left out of the new govt--and they're also more afraid of us now than their cuthroat bretheren--sounds like things are improving it would seem--bad news for the democrats--which is a problem--when good news for america hurts your party ..thats a problem--and they are totally invested in our defeat

Its clear to most people that Bush doesn't have a clue about what the ememy wants or doesn't want. All he cares about is how it will look for the GOP if the failure happens on his watch. He will do anything to prolong the war.

The enemy owes their "victory" to an inept president who doesn't have the first clue about military strategy. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.....I think not.

I cannot believe that any free thinking person will continue the charade that Bush is forcing down the throats of most Americans. People like Catstevens are an abomination for the perpetuation of a war of aggression and they will seek any tidbit of news to substaniate their idiotic viewpoint.

We Americans voted for change yet the minority Nationalistic hawks under Bush is still promoting the world dominance theory to satisfy our rich in America. If it were up to me I would initiate the same for this George as in France, the guillotine. It's getting to that point since we have now become a dictatorship and aggressor on the world stage. Yet, you go "dah, the world hates us." Why the surprise, did you think you were righteous under this idiot.

NO, I think they will stop if we stop killing their children, raping their women, and arming Israel.

                  Just a thought.

If you believe that the U.S. would have been justified in attacking Saddam, if it had been true that he was cooperating with Al-Qaeda, how was Al-Qaeda not justified in attacking the U.S., when it is an undisputed fact that the U.S. has been gifting Israel with a billion dollars of advanced armaments each and every year?

" Do you think terrorists will stop trying to destroy us if we leave Iraq?"

No they will not, you have angered many of them with your arrogance and you have trained many more in urban combat at your Iraq training institute of urban warfare.

Perhaps you should be asking...is making more terrorists and training them what we really desire. Could most terrorist attacks be stopped with better intel and the cooperation of friendly nations?

I have one small question for you if you will. Is it true that your president would only testify before the 911 commission in the presence of the vice president and not under oath? I notice your name implies the other side tells fibs so i would expect a truthful answer from yourself. If this is indeed true i find it incredible that your people would have no problem with it.

Good plan!..How about GETTING BIN LADEN?? They're laughing at us..3,000 years ago the Romans could snuff out 50 Jews who were reading the Torah by campfire in a cave, but the most technologically advanced nation in the history of the world

Some of these comments are exasperating. Spending $1 more on Iraq is nonsense. Down the road, if the general who runs Pakistan loses control thats when the real (not imagined scary stuff begins) and it might happen because he decided to ally himself wuth Bush. Most of the real right wing Muslims lurk in Pakistan (aren't they now harboring Bin Laden) and they mean business.

Our own right wing zealots always are elated to offer that the terrorists are hoping for a democratic victory (that might be the case) but the real story is that not only the enemy but the entire world is hoping for a democratic victory. This administrations dimwitted policies have practically managed to destroy the Atlantic Alliance.

Bush has been a failure since day one. The American people should impeach this president. He wants more American soldier to get kill in the two wars. He is a modern American Hitler.

                              Exactly.

Mr. Bush gave Iraq to the Shia, democratically, because they are the majority, and the Shia majority are going straight to Tehran with Iraq, on a silver platter.

The Kurds, however, are another matter altogether, but the SHia don't want to worry about the Kurds right now. The Turks will never put up with an independent Kurdistan.

I believe it's a little more complicated than that. Don't get me wrong I think we need to negotiate our way out of Iraq as soon as possible, but many Iraqi Shia would fight Iran, if it invaded, as furiously as they are fighting us.

GEORGE please tell me what victory means to you? I suspect that victory means control over the largest oil reserve in the world so you can steal it to your hearts content. If you or your friends give any other answers you are being less than truthful. To put it succinctly, YOU ARE LIARS.

Over forty years ago Eugene McCarthy was an anti war advocate regarding Vietnam. At that time being quite young and impressionable I despised the man and categorized him as a traitor against America. As a marine in Vietnam I thought we were the righteous of the world and doing the correct thing.

Oh, how times have changed. I read an article by Mr. McCarthy about the evils of the Iraq war and I thanked him for his patriotism. Being older and wiser I now see things more pragmatic knowing Vietnam and Iraq are abominations on the moral values America once stood for. I will admit I get angry at the conservative bloggers like catstevens since I cannot understand how they ignore the obvious. We are breeding a generation of terrorist in the world our grandchildren will have to face and I find it pathetic.

I leave you with this one truism, if another country occupied the U.S. I would take up arms myself to rid the scourge from my soverign soil. A thought for the right wing.

                                            The dictator summons...

This poltroon should be impeached and Congress is derelict in its duty to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution by failing to bring this junta into account.

It is imperative that benchmarks and timelines be incorporated into any funding of this ghastly misadventure: because every cent that Congress appropriates will be wasted, not to mention more unecessary spilled blood of our troops and innocents. Without such benchmarks and timelines, the Dumbya dictatorship will continue to do what it has for more than 4 years: lie and con about why they need to stay there.

Make no mistake, regardless of how atrocious things become in Iraq and for our troops and our military, the Dumbya dictatorship intends to stay there - permanently. It's all about their vision of oil profits, which they estimate to be in the $ trillions. This is a treasonous regime of inveterate liars who care nothing for the rule of law, our Constitution or our traditional American values.
