April 14, 2007, 10:51 p.m.I have not watched the film but points commented in the article are of interest.
While there is a controversy, the best way to deal with it is by considering information from many angles of view.
This is an opportunity to look at a wider picture and have more freedom of choice.

April 14, 2007, 11 p.m.The IRS, has NO legal authority, to collect taxes on wages paid to illegal alliens, in this country,or the social security administration, to collect taxes also, from the same illegal immigrants,. and each one of our elected officals knows this, and allows it to happen every-day and has for years..Now you know.

April 14, 2007, 11:23 p.m.populist,
Thank you for finding this story. A great piece!
It is one of the most logical and thought-provoking and truth-seeking documentary I have ever seen!
To call it conspiracy theory is pulling wool over your eyes!
Ignore at your own risk.

April 14, 2007, 11:50 p.m.LOL....the part of this about the IRS and taxes is dead on....the part about a national ID card is not a problem. One would think that a national ID card that proves that you are a US citizen would be exactly what is needed to fight illegal aliens working at companies where they should not be as well as proving that they are eligible and legal voters and also that they are who they say they are at banks and government agencies....

April 15, 2007, 1:01 a.m.Thumbs up for Mr Russo and his film. It
sure is an eyeopener for those of us who
live in "the land of the free" isn't it?.
Things haven't changed much since the days
of the greedy land barons and the lowly serfs.
The greedy land barons have gotten sneakier and
just a little more polite, while they leech off
of us better fed serfs.

April 15, 2007, 4:26 a.m.A tax revolt is what's needed. And the demand: a flat tax in tiered percentages, with no deductions or exemptions, to be paid equally by every worker and corporation. The sweeping majority of us would pay less when all pay equally. And he income to the fed would be higher. Plus - imagine the form! "I made X times Y%. Enclosed is my check." Until the worthless, power-grubbing, self-serving @#*^#*^@# parasites we call congressmen and senators feel the power of the purse -- they will continue to operate with impunity. They will continue to sell our laws and constitution to the highest bidder - be it corporate, religious, foreign government, or union. The People be damned. Elections won't help, because there's a never ending supply of these worthless b---ards.

April 15, 2007, 4:30 a.m.Oh - and here's a fun tax fact. Originally, people sent the fed a check for their income tax due at the end of the year.
After WWII, withholding was introduced. One of the main drivers behind the withholding system was the projected post-war prosperity and consumerism. It was reasoned that if people had to write a big check at the end of the year they'd feel the burden more and be more aware of how onerous the system is. Fleecing us in smaller weekly increments masks how royally screwed we actually are.

April 15, 2007, 6:36 a.m.You know, I never did feel right about how 1/4 of my $$ gets taken out. If they didn't take that, I could buy a house AND a car, keep my electric going, Have my phone turned back on and get the net at HOME!
The gov't finds anything they can to make Middle & lower class Americans lives just a lot harder. raising taxes when they are already illegal? GRRRRRR
AND MORE!
thanx populist!

April 15, 2007, 9:17 a.m.Congress writes the Tax Code that the IRS enforces. So that alone is proof that there is a law. The code in and of itself is the tax law.

April 15, 2007, 9:20 a.m.Hello,that is a very informing article. I have not seen the film but read the story.I think it is time for a new vision for this great country and it's people.A more just and equitable system for all. But that's not going to happen with our current system. Greed seems to be the rule and not the exception.

April 15, 2007, 9:22 a.m.taxes are our paychecks to the government to do a job, I don't beleive they've been doing their jobs, some are stealing from our company (America) most lie on their 'job application' to get the job. I don't like how they are doing the job period! time to do a lot of firing, and with holding their paychecks (taxes) after all they are supposed to be working for us! I really resent paying all those giant pensions to them.
Maybe it's time for another tea party of sorts?

April 15, 2007, 9:27 a.m.Amendment 16 - Status of Income Tax Clarified. Ratified 2/3/1913.
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

April 15, 2007, 9:55 a.m.At the very least, the rate of tax on income from investments should be equal, if not greater than the rate charged on income from wages.
And yes, we need a Constitutional Convention.

April 15, 2007, 10:36 a.m.It's interesting that the federal government has basically three areas of responsiblity:
Protect the boarders
Set and collect tariffs
Raise an army
Since they're failing at two of the three, maybe we should pay taxes accordingly.
ALSO - some have mentioned 25% in income tax. Yet income tax is the tip of the iceberg. Federal excise tax, state and fed tax on gasoline (totalling 68¢ here in NY), medicare/medicaid withholding, social security (yes, a tax since LBJ stole the trust fund), sales taxes, local and state income taxes, tax on earned interest from savings, property tax, school tax
ADD IT UP FOLKS!!! You're paying over 50% of your income in one form of tax or another to a usesless @#$*^# bunch of a--holes who sell our laws, our lives, and our constitution to the highest bidder!

April 15, 2007, 10:43 a.m.Taxes are something we are never going to be able to escape.
One answer to the problem would be to make enough money in your life to not have to worry about odd dollars and the IRS in your face. Have enough money to pay all your taxes this free report of an interview with bob proctor will certainly get you on your way. http://www.theofficiallawofattraction.com

April 15, 2007, 10:50 a.m.There's a box on this years form to check, for a $30.00 refund for 'phone tax' paid. If you kept your receipts over the years, you could get it all back, which would be in the hundreds of $$$ (of course no one keeps their phone bills for decades.) So, you get $30.00 if you check the box. The 3% federal phone tax had been in place for 108 years, & was originally used to help fund the Spanish American war. Five courts told the IRS it was illegal, before they gave up fighting to keep it.
