The Environmental Protection Agency agreed in response to legal pressure to write up to 120 importing and manufacturing companies by the end of the month, instructing them to provide health and safety studies if any lead might be found in the products they make for children.

"Parents still need to be vigilant about the recalls on products marketed to children that might contain lead, and take those products away from children as soon as they are recalled," Jessica Frohman, co-chair of the Sierra Club's national toxics committee, said Sunday.

Excuse me? I know little about this because my 'kids' are in their forties, but what on earth could the excuse POSSIBLY be that they waited so long to give 'more attention' to this? For crying out loud, this should have been 'buttoned up' decades ago! I think it's time to dismantle government agencies, and turn them over to volunteers with nothing to gain but feeling good about contributing to the welfare of their country.

I'm glad it's being regulated, and under the microscope for each children's product that being distributed in the commercial public mainstream. It should have been done years ago. The children are innocent angels, and our future.

          Thanks Stoners.

I didn't realise this was a problem. I almost can't believe in this day of "advancements" & watchdog standards, that this still exists.

This has been going on for years!! It started with girls jewelry being sold and recalled. Why aren't products made over seas held to high American standards before they are imported!!

How many lives have been affected because of lead poisoning.

You have to remember, your government doesn't take care of evey thing or protect you from being poisoned. NO LEAD should be in any products.

Christmas lights are notorious for having lead on them - I am still uncertain why!>>>>

I looked that up, and I'll be damned if artificial trees don't contain lead if they're made with PVC!!

And it only took until early 2007, for them to do this? Lead has been out of paint for YEARS but could still be used in kids toys! outrageous and unforgiveable

Great piece! It's high time that this were taken seriously. Just how much regulation is in force in countries where sweatshops turn out cheap toys, and other consumer goods? I suggest very little oversight, if any.

ROFLMAO, Un frigging believable. The EPA is FINALLY acting to ensure lead is removed from products for kids and the idiots on the right are busy sinking the story. I think we should all take that as an example of what lead can do to the brain.
