The murders on the Virginia Tech campus, the worst such rampage in our history, might have been mitigated if just one member of the faculty or a student had the means to return fire.

When you have a gun, you're more likely to shoot somebody than without one. Cops should have guns, not disturbed kids who shoot up campuses and not crazed extremists who wish nothing more than to slaughter as many Arabs and Mexicans as possible.

Pretty dicey issue. I own too many firearms to count quickly, but I'm not sure I want firearms even as easily accessible as they now are. Responsible firearms use and ownership requires not only training but clear thinking and judgment. There are lots of people who should not be permitted to own firearms. Nevertheless, it would obviously have been helpful if there had been a firearms owner or two with concealed weapons permits on the scene at VT to put 150 grains of lead through this bastard's "brain" before he got as far as he did.

Ill get slaughtered for this, but here it goes.

There is no proof that if someone in the area had a gun, things would have turned out differently. In fact, there is just as much chance that things would have turned out worse had that happened.

Scenario 1: Shooter goes into dorm, shoots a victem. Spectator sees this, returns fire. (At this point there is a good chance that the 2nd shooter hits a panicked student or someone other than the first shooter). Police show up, and now there are two shooters. Who is the bad guy? Are they both the bad guy? What if they come across the second shooter first, and assume he was the one responsible?

Scenario 2: Shooter goes into dorm, shoots a victem. Spectator sees this, returns fire, and misses. First shooter kills second shooter and continues on.

Assuming that all gun owners are good shots, and reasonable, responsible people is a HUGE assumption. Just as assuming having someone there with a gun would have made a difference.

Ahh yes let the gun nuts twist this tragedy in as many ways as there are guns.........

How many guns does one need for home defense

What reasonable limit should there be on the type of weapon an individual can and should own ( RPG's )

What constitutes a "well maintained militia" a minor condition to a citizens right to bare arms that too many nut jobs seem to forget.

Define responsible gun ownership ( the individual responsible for the tech massacre was a legal gun owner)

Is there a valid reason for owning teflon bullets ( yea right the criminals will all be wearing vests)

The problem with gun nuts is that they feel their "right " should be completely unrestricted.

And lastly, only specifically trained personel should be allowed to carry guns on the street.(ie: police security etc) Gee I feel safer already.

Everyone in Iraq seems to have a gun, how's that working out.

if for no other reason then to stop people from stealing your drinking water after a natural disaster.

plus, target shooting is a hell of a lot of fun.

Everyone should own a gun and be trained on how to use it. Everyone should have a conceal and carry permit which will also serve as a National ID card and your NRA membership card. This solution solves multiple problems, don't you wish you would have thought of it??
