Diesel price rises another 3.7 cents a gallon »

Oil prices may have been waffling today, but the average price of a gallon of diesel wasn't. It went up following a trend that has seen the on-highway price increase 20.1 cents a gallon since the last week in March.

    The average weekly retail on-highway price of a gallon of diesel for the week ended today was $2.877, an increase of 3.7 cents over the previous week, according to the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy.

    Only three weeks ago, the average price was $2.676, and for the last week in January, the price was $2.413, 46.4 cents a gallon lower that the week just ended.

    For the first time in several reporting periods, a region reported an average price of more than $3 a gallon when California reported $3.015 for the current reporting period.
