Scores of schools across the country shut down or evacuated students Thursday and at least a dozen people were arrested or under investigation as the wave of campus threats that started soon after the Virginia Tech shootings spread in the time it takes to make a phone call or post a message on the Internet. At least two students were arrested for bringing guns onto campus.

The overwhelming majority of the threats referred to Monday's massacre in Blacksburg, Va., or the 1999 Columbine High School killings, authorities said. Friday is the eighth anniversary of the Columbine attacks.

The publicity surrounding these incidents breeds more incidents I'm sorry to say. Someone will inevitably try to break Cho's "record".

After 36 schools were locked down in California today because of a drug-addicted transient, yeah this is what the nation has come to.

Copy cat crime should be expected for a while, and schools should be vigilant to it. It's a phenomenon that's shown itself over and over again. The Yuba county schools in lock down over the threat in N. California is a few miles from my grandson's town. Don't know if they caught the guy yet, but I wouldn't have let my grandson go to school until they do, were it my call. (They know who made the threat).

The constant 24/7 discussion of the acts of a deranged madman on TV is going to cause a lot of copycats.

After that televised video rant, I'm not at all surprised. But in defense of the media outlets who chose to run it, it WAS news. Would we rather they keep us ignorant? And if it flushes out another two dozen loose cannons about to go off, so much the better. Some of them will get locked up BEFORE they do what this disturbed young man did.

That Cho has stirred up sick aspirants. Some of these people just want attention. Don't give it to them easily. But we better be more vigilant on these issues though.

Charles Whitman, Charlie Manson, McVeigh, Jack the Ripper, the Columbine killers - who do you remember their names or the names of their victims. You might know the numbers but you dont know the names.

Some maniac wants to be remebered - he knows the names of the other maniacs very well.

Crazy society now days. Just what does a person gain even pulling it off as a joke? Gain attention? Spread fear? That in itself is ignorant and sick minded. I just don't understand these type of people and truthfully, I'm glad I don't.

The problem is publicity is taken as something valuable in and of itself, no matter what its for. Furthermore, our media is driven by profit rather than public good, and what makes good TV almost never makes a good example. We put this Cho guy all over the media without examining the implications of his actions. Instead we try to find the man behind the killings, and the media corporations try to piece together a personality rather than giving a voice to ethical concerns (which would mean that the role of the media itself would get put on the spot). They make Cho into a social outcast, a rebel (something a lot of people identify with) rather than voicing why his actions were inappropriate. We assume that everyone understands why his actions were wrong, but not everyone does. And maybe instead of arresting frustrated kids in high school, we should explain to them why taking out your anger by killing people is futile and pointless, and why Cho isn't a hero or a role-model.

Yesterday at my school, a janitor found some unspent bullets in a trash can and we ended up evacuating school after our first class. As cool as it was to get out of school early or whatever, somebody at my school threw BULLETS in a TRASH CAN. That makes me sleep real easy.

We will always have copycats. They should all be arrested and spend a lot of time in jail or a mental institution. They should also not be given any chance in life as far as I am concerned. They are sick and they need help. Drug the hell out of them and let them drool for the rest of their lives.

I already knew this was going to happen, and it will continue.

First a major crime which is at this point VT happens at a school. Then people all over the nation are in hysteria, and then numerous amount of other people. Whom are Copycats criminals then later on it will all die out.

Then some 6 years down the road another will happen, and for some reason it will called the worst in the history of the U.S. Then it's just a rinse and repeat.

Thanks Media it probably is their fault for the guy going crazy. He did mention the rich, and on VH1 and MTV that's basicallly rich nation right there. Oh well who care bye.

There are always going to be deranged and insane people in society who slip by in the system until they explode. There are always warnings and red flags that either were ignored or inadequately dealt with. And there are always going to be copycat terrorists spouting up after horrific events. Better we find out the potiential crazies now than later.

They should have terrorist charges against them, just about everyone is effected in some way by these acts. People in all schools, kids, the teachers, parents. tho it's interesting to see for example what Cho sent to NBC, I think the majority of that should have been viewed by experts,(criminalologist, psychiatrists) not the general public. And I don't blame the parents who lost their children, one second for pulling out of interviews. Cho and others like him want that feeling of glorification. It's their warped sence of perception! and how does anyone even know if Cho was abused, shunned or even mistreated? maybe it was just his warped sense of perception.
