Study: Homophobic Athletes' Behavior Still "Pretty Gay" »
Posted by: ind06 2 years, 8 months agoBristol, CT - Buried amongst the myriad of ass slaps, emotional hugs, and naked locker rooms, the athletic world hides an irrational fear so heinous that its very mention causes panic; threatening to light the short, incendiary fuse of hysteria.

April 20, 2007, 2:55 a.m.As an athlete myself I can vouch that none of my ass slaps, either given or received ever had the slightest gay content or even the possibility of the vaguest interpretation of gayness. I regard this article to be nothing but a farce!

April 20, 2007, 10:21 a.m.How strange to confuse affection for and pride in another human being for sexuality. As a gay athlete I can asure you that the hugs and pats that I give to and receive from fellow athletes (males and females of a variety of orientations)are not about sex. When I want that I'll lick your neck.

April 20, 2007, 10:23 a.m.This is not about right versus wrong or gay versus straight", explained the bumbling Murphy. "I have at least one gay acquaintance...well, he's a friend of a friend...not someone I'd hang out with all the time or anything, but you know...he's funny in the pants. Now, let me state that there's nothing wrong with that, but it's not like we're real close or anything. We hit the links every once in awhile...wait, let me rephrase that: We play golf together on occasion; like once a year or something...nothing serious.
ROFLMAO! breath....breath....LMAO!

April 20, 2007, 12:08 p.m.Clearly this was written by a liberal. This reinforces my conclusion that libs have a substantial portion of their brains located in their groins.
How else can you explain their preocuppation with sex?

April 20, 2007, 12:58 p.m.Who wrote this article? its very poorly done.
In any sense, I always find it funny when you hear those stories (theres ususally a few a year) about highschool/college athletes who "haze" a student or call him gay and then do unthinkably freakish gay acts on that person.
I.E. holding him down and putting there scrotum on his mouth (thats a common one), or holdin him down and sticking things up the rectum of the boy
I always hear stories like that, makes you realize who the real gay kids are. And how sad it is that they are that troubled about it

April 20, 2007, 1:51 p.m.The word "homophobic" imples that people are AFRAID of homosexuals or homosexuality. You've got it all wrong. People are not AFRAID of homosexuals or homosexuality; they are REPULSED by what has been considered depraved and detestable behavior for at least 6000 years! Don't believe it? In God's word the book of Leviticus was written about 6000 years ago, and God (speaking to Moses) says that, when a man lies with a man as he would with a woman, that it is an abomination. How much clearer does He have to make it? Lest you say that Jesus would not say that, Romans chapter 1 says (after Jesus came and went back to heaven) that people who indulge in homosexuality and do not change their ways "are worthy of death." Open your Bible and see what GOD says . . . not what the WORLD says. So-called homophobic people hate the filthy sin, not the people (who CAN be forgiven by God if they will stop DOING the sin.)

April 20, 2007, 1:54 p.m.As I have always said, "the one who screams queer the loudest has something to hide."
It is and has always been true.

April 20, 2007, 2:29 p.m.Interesting that the very first comment in this post, a quick disavowal of gayness, salutes the article's premise.
The sad truth: homophobia is rampant in professional athletics, no doubt because conflict over same-sex interest, where that interest exists, is stirred by a (sexualized) all-male environment.
Let's not forget, too, that, like the marines, such environments represent a kind of cult of masculinity; you're there in part because you like and/or uphold guy-ness at its most. And loving guys, and all things male, is what gayness is about. No problem if you're not conflicted about your sexual interest, but definitely a problem if you ARE.

April 20, 2007, 3:37 p.m.It's idiotic stories like this that further the "if you look at, touch, talk about, know men, then you're gay"
I don't know if you'd have to be a male or not to understand this, but there are SO many things out there nowadays that people will look at and think, "Gee, that must mean they're gay."
I mean, the straightest of straight men gets questioned by todays "standards".
Touching another male is not 'gay'. Hugging another male is not 'gay'. If ignorance like this is allowed to flourish, it only promotes the hate of homosexuality in our society, and that's a bad thing, whether you're in favor of it or not.
Promoting hate is never a good thing.

Very goofy.

April 20, 2007, 4:02 p.m.Agreed, Mowens. But perhaps a more...detailed way of looking at the ass pat is that it CAN be (and probably is) a sexualized gesture that is readable in a NUMBER of ways: it can be sexually "innocent" or less so.
In any case, it shouldn't matter what degree of sexual content it has for the slapper or slappee. What's wrong is the panic that attaches to the possibility of its being read as sexual AT ALL.

April 20, 2007, 5:27 p.m.Wow I had no idea so may of these former athletes would still be in denial of their homosexuality.
Come on guys. When I was in high school I knew I had choices, I could chase girls or be a "jock" and live my life taking showers with other guys, slapping thier butts and wrestling around on the ground trying to pin them before they pinned me. I realized I wasn't homosexual so I skipped all the sports designed to allow closet homosexuals to put on a facade for their parents and themselves that they were straight.
Its a shame all those "jocks" can't just come out of the closet... Oh well maybe when Tom Cruise comes out of the closet those former "jocks" will get up the courage to be their flaming selves.

April 21, 2007, 12:07 a.m.Preceiving the Locker Room especially pinpointing ass slapping and parading around naked as a danger zone by homophobics is outright outlandish as this is perhaps the least where Gays would show their affections. This is so silly, especially in todays world when women are as prevelent as men inside lockers rooms as men shower and dress. I rather doubt any gay or anyone for that matter would be showing their affections to other men under these circumstances.

April 21, 2007, 1:19 a.m.You know whenever we guys bond they want us to be gay. I bet the ladies wrote the rules about this cause they only wanted us 'bonding' with them until they used us up. No seriously... women behind closed doors dictate policy and we guys let them...then we go do the guy thing and Bam you must be gay; cause who would not wants missy's tight bottom 24 and 7....Please!!. The slaps are guys way of telling each other...hey man....let that manhood shine though dude..." good job"

April 21, 2007, 11:15 a.m.I think it's the male homophobes that wrote those rules, they don't want to be considered weak or girly by their male peers. I don't believe there is a high percentage of female homophobes, only those with religious convictions. Being a male jock gives men a pass on showing affection with team mates without the fear of being labeled gay, and lets the weaker homophobes feel secure because after all..who would think those big strong manly men could be gay?!?
