The Sociology Of Cannabis And World History »
Posted by: Fedquip 2 years, 8 months agoContrary to popular perception, marijuana is not a phenomenon rooted in the 1960s. Cannabis hemp is part of our global heritage and was the backbone of our most stable and longest surviving cultures.

April 21, 2007, 10:29 a.m.I agree, alcohol is one of the worst drugs ever.I quit drinking at 22 because I had seen it destroy so many people I care about. What is pathetic, is how law makers and cops will celebrate the persecution of good people with a toast.I remember that pig Reagan celebrating the passage of the crime bill of '86 that permitted cops to seize property by cracking open a bottle of champagne. The fact is that Ronald Reagan was the worst liar about drugs, and did the most damage to our country, since Harry Anslinger.

April 21, 2007, 10:22 a.m.I don't really have anything against alcohol IF it's used responsibly, for those who don't..damn there are some MEAN drunks out there! don't think I've ever met a mean person smoking pot! Just like domestic violence, a good part of the time alcohol is involved, don't hear about marijuana being involved. I wonder why the first people even thought to try smoking weed? :-)

April 21, 2007, 11:41 a.m.We're doing way more harm to America with our unwinnable War on Drugs than pot ever did. America now incarcerates over 2 million citizens. That's roughly 1 in every 142 of us. Incarceration rates per capita have been steadily rising since we declared the War on Drugs. You'd think we would have already locked up the bad guys by now, but the rates of incarceration just keep rising with no end in sight.
Seems we learned little or nothing from prohibition.

April 21, 2007, 11:57 a.m.I believe that a person gets arrested for a marijuana "offense" every 41 seconds.Just call the police if your home is burglarized and listen to them tell you that the person responsible will probably not be caught because they just dont have the time to solve every crime, your complaint will just be "filed".

April 21, 2007, 12:40 p.m.The author of this book,"The Emporer Wears No Clothes",also has a $100,000 challenge to anyone who can prove that hemp is not the best source for biofuels on earth.

It is to bad that many have gone out of their way to make hemp into the evil drug....
When it is very clear that it is the HEALING HERB, straight from our MOTHER EARTH...

April 21, 2007, 2:34 p.m.When I was in cooking school, my chef instructor told me that of all the varieties of rice we eat, there are only two classifications for the rice genome, Oryza sativa and indica. So I then told her that of all the different varieties of pot I smoke, they all trace back to two as well. Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica, Lol.
Actually, there are three strains of Cannabis - Cannabis indica, Cannabis sativa, and Cannabis ruderalis,. Cannabis indica and Cannabis sativa are the ones that produce the most THC while Ruderalis produces virtually none.
I just thought it was an interesting coincidence. These days there are countless varieties of both rice and cannabis.

April 21, 2007, 2:40 p.m.I would take it in pill form please. I didn't like the smell of smoke on my person or in the house. This way I can just pop one in my mouth and then start eating like crazy. So i'll have to work a little more each day to keep the weight off. But heck, its worth it. Also I'll have a nice feeling all day.

April 21, 2007, 3:03 p.m.I'd love to here what my mother (in her 60s) would say to that. They were truly brainwashed in the 50s to think it is a root of evil.

April 21, 2007, 3:47 p.m.This is an interesting article. However, I'm disappointed with its accuracy. During the "Age of Enlightenment," I'm afraid Ogden Livingston Mills was not alive to write his "landmark essay." The writer of On Liberty was not O.L. Mills, but John Stuart Mill. J.S. Mill was a radical and brilliant defender of free thought during the Victorian era, while O.L. Mills was an American businessman and politician (a staunch Republican at that), who lived during the latter part of the 19th century and halfway through the 20th. The author of this article has committed a blatant error and, in the process, soiled the name of one the world's greatest thinkers. Mr. Mill is rolling over in his grave right now.
