Record drought: Australians warned of water cuts »

PM John Howard warned that irrigation of much of the nation's farmland will be banned unless there is heavy rainfall in the next month. Irrigators are already warning that if they cannot water their land, there will be huge crop losses & consumers will face large price rises. He said there was no choice, and he described the situation as grim.

    Australians have been warned to expect sharp food prices hikes, including farm products such as fruits and vegetables within the next few weeks. Unless very substantial rain is received in the Murray-Darling basin, the federal government is prepared to shut off water allocations to drought-ravaged irrigators.

      Just watched a program today talking about the water shortage, that is a very scary situation they are in.
